5c Orange Brown (1b). Large to huge margins all around, lovely color complemented by red grid cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN THE ORANGE BROWN SHADE, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E. THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
P.S.E. encapsulated (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $3,500.00). This is the highest grade awarded to an Orange Brown stamp in the P.S.E. Population Report. Only seven other stamps share this grade

As an indication of the rarity of 10c 1847 multiples larger than a pair, Scott assigns a value of $3,000 for a pair, but $10,500 for the strip of three. Pairs or two singles would often be used on double 10c rate covers, but strips of three, blocks of four or other large multiples were infrequently used.
