1c Ultramarine, Split H. Grill (134 var). Clear grill points, split vertically, bright shade, stamp also shows slip print with some slight doubling at bottom, face-free circular datestamp and cork cancels, tiny tear and tiny crease at top, Very Fine appearance, an unusual variety, with 1972 P.F. certificate describing this as a double impression (which it is not), Scott Retail as normal split grill
10c Brown, H. Grill (139). Rich color, red cork cancel and part of matching circular datestamp (probably New York), Fine, scarce use of red cancel on 10c Grill, with 2004 P.F. certificate
10c Brown, H. Grill (139). Attractive centering, fresh color with clearly struck "(N.) York Steamship" circular datestamp, Fine, scarce and desirable, especially with the entire word "Steamship" on the stamp
12c Dull Violet, H. Grill (140). Remarkably darker shade and stronger grill impression than typically encountered, nicely centered, circle of wedges cancel highlights the depressed points of the grill, thus authenticating it, small tear at bottom left, otherwise Very Fine, this stamp belies the conventional wisdom that all 12c 1870 Grill stamps must be a light shade of Violet and have a weak grill impression, with 1992 P.F. certificate
15c Orange, H. Grill (141). Unused with small part disturbed original gum, vibrant color, a few noticeable grill points at center under chin, tiny red spots at lower left corner, otherwise Fine, ex Seymour, with 1967 P.F. certificate as part gum, Scott Retail as no gum
15c Orange, H. Grill (141). Wonderful deep color and nicely centered, unusual grid cancel, tiny faint thin spot in grill, Very Fine appearance
30c Black, H. Grill (143). Intense shade with neat segmented cork cancel, the grill is very faint and difficult to detect, otherwise Fine and scarce, with 1997 P.F. certificate
90c Carmine, H. Grill (144). Rich color, circle of small wedges cancel, reperfed at top and left, Fine appearance, with 1996 A.P.S. certificate not mentioning the reperfing
2c Red Brown, I. Grill (135A). Original gum, lightly hinged, several rows of clear grill points, rich color on bright paperVERY FINE AND CHOICE. A SCARCE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 2-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE WITH I GRILL. THIS HAS RECENTLY BEEN ELEVATED TO A MAJOR CATALOGUE NUMBER IN SCOTT.
The I Grills have been elevated to major catalogue numbers starting with the 2013 Scott Specialized Catalogue, taking their place with the other grill types such as the A, B, C, D, Z, E and F Grills.
With 2012 P.S.E. certificate (OGh, VF 80; unlisted in SMQ as an I Grill, though we expect they will start listing them soon).
3c Green, I. Grill (136A). Clearly-defined grill, rich color, neat strike of target cancel, essentially perfectly centered, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb used example of the 3c I Grill, which has just been elevated to a major catalogue number, with 2012 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; the I Grill is unpriced in SMQ which also does not price the H grill in the grade of 98, SMQ $425.00 as 95 H Grill)
7c Vermilion, I. Grill (138A). Original gum, lightly hinged, two vertical rows of clear grill points in the early I Grill shape, brilliant colorVERY FINE. A RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 NATIONAL BANK NOTE WITH I GRILL. THE I GRILLS HAVE RECENTLY BEEN ELEVATED TO MAJOR CATALOGUE NUMBERS IN SCOTT CATALOGUE. A GREAT RARITY.
Starting with the 2013 Scott U.S. Specialized Catalogue, the I Grills have been elevated to major catalogue number status. The listing is now consistent with other grill types such as A, B, C, D, Z, E and F Grills. Collectors will now have to acquire these I Grills in their quest for completeness. We anticipate that collector demand will be difficult to satisfy based on populations we have seen, especially in original-gum condition.

7c Vermilion, 15c Yellow Orange (149, 163). Two items, No. 149 rich color, centrally-struck New York Foreign Mail Shield cancel (Ty. RE-E2), small creases at top, Extremely Fine and scarce strike, illustrated in Weiss book, also No. 163 used with No. 158, tied together on small piece by perfectly struck New York Foreign Mail Rosette cancel (Ty. TR-W5), 3c with small ms. at top left, Extremely Fine strike
10c Brown (150). Bright shade, perfect strike of New York Foreign Mail Geometric (Weiss Type ST-8P11), Extremely Fine strike, with 2002 P.F. certificate
12c Dull Violet (151). Rich color on crisp paper, bold strike of circle of wedges cancel, well-balanced margins, Extremely Fine, with 1992 P.F. certificate
15c Bright Orange (152). Jumbo margins all around, bright shade, light strike of purple quartered cork cancel, Very Fine and choice, with 2010 P.S.E. certificate (VF 80 Jumbo; SMQ $165.00 as 80, $255.00 as 85), SMQ does not take into consideration colored cancels, Scott Catalogue assigns a $150.00 premium for a purple cancel.
24c Purple (153). Original gum, lightly hinged, exceptionally well-centered, nice color, Very Fine and choice, a beautiful stamp and difficult to find in this quality, with 1983 and 2010 P.F. certificates (VF-XF 85)

10c Brown (161). Jumbo margins and choice centering, cork cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, an absolutely enormous stamp which defies all norms for this issue, with 2001 and 2007 P.F. certificate

1870-73 Bank Note Issues with Captured Imprints. Three items, first is 12c horizontal pair with neat New York Foreign Mail Geometric cancel and captured Continental imprint at top, second is single 15c also with captured Continental imprint at top, last is 30c with captured National imprint at top, few trivial imperfections, Very Fine and unusual group
15c Reddish Orange (163). Unused (no gum), nice margins and intense color, Very Fine, with 1983 P.F. certificate
30c Gray Black (165). Unused (no gum), choice centering, bright shade, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2010 P.F. and P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $2,800.00), this is the highest grade awarded to an unused example of this issue (also two original-gum stamps graded 95)
90c Rose Carmine (166). Original gum, lightly hinged, beautiful pastel color, small natural inking flaw at bottom of bust, Fine, with 2005 P.F. certificate
