5c Carmine, Imperforate, Error (485). Mint N.H. single error in a block of nine, top 2c stamp lightly hinged, huge margins showing significant portions of eleven adjoining stamps, brilliant color, natural gum wrinkles, one on the error stamps called a crease on accompanying certificateEXTREMELY FINE APPEARING MINT NEVER HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT IMPERFORATE ERROR IN A BLOCK OF NINE.
During the course of production of the normal 2c plate No. 7942, three positions were noted to be defective. The plate was returned to the siderographer, who burnished out the three positions and mistakenly re-entered them using a transfer roll for the 5c stamp. The error passed unnoticed and the sheets were issued.
With 2015 P.F. certificate
1c-5c 1916-22 Issue, Rotary Coils (486-489, 496). Mint N.H. joint line pairs, P.S.E. graded 95, 85, 85, 90 and 90 respectively, Extremely Fine group, P.S.E. certificate for No. 496 states "small holes variety" but we do not think it is, total SMQ $985.00
1c-10c 1916-22 Issue, Rotary Coils (486-490, 492-497). Mint N.H. pairs, brilliant colors, better centering than usually found offered as a set, fresh and Extremely Fine, No. 490 light pencil notation on gum
2c Carmine, Ty. II, Coil (487). Mint N.H. joint line pair, brilliant color, almost perfectly centered, trivial natural inclusion on bottom stamp not mentioned on accompanying certificate, Extremely Fine, ex Hansen, with 2003 P.S.E. and 2004 P.F. certificates
2c Carmine, Ty. II, Coil (487). Mint N.H. pair, perfect centering, bright and fresh, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2009 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $550.00)
3c Violet, Ty. I, Coil (489). Mint N.H., Jumbo margins, precise centering, rich color, Extremely Fine Gem, with 1995 P.F. and 2007 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $175.00 as 98)

2c Carmine, Ty. II, Coil (491). Unused (regummed), rich color, Fine-Very Fine, with copy of 1970 P.F. certificate for a strip of four stating original gum, with 2015 P.S.E. certificate as regummed (F 70), Scott Retail as original gum
3c Violet, Ty. I, Coil (493). Mint N.H. joint line pair, radiant color, detailed impression, unusually wide margins, fresh and Extremely Fine, ex "Scarsdale", with 2001 P.F. and 2007 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90; SMQ $400.00)
3c Violet, Ty. I, Coil (493). Mint N.H., exceedingly fresh with bright color on crisp paper, essentially perfect centering, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2005 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $325.00), only two grade higher (at 98J)
4c Orange Brown, Coil (495). Mint N.H. joint line pair, remarkably well-centered, brilliant fresh color, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $1,500.00), this is the highest grade awarded to a Scott 495 line pair and is equaled by only four others
4c Orange Brown, Coil (495). Mint N.H. joint line pair, radiant color, choice centering, Extremely Fine Gem, ex Hoffman, with 2001 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $725.00), only five line pairs have been graded higher (all at 98)
4c Orange Brown, Coil (495). Mint N.H. joint line pair, brilliant color, gorgeous centering, Extremely Fine, with 2003 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90; SMQ $350.00)
5c Blue, Coil (496). Mint N.H. joint line pair, outstanding centering, rich color on post-office fresh paper, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $625.00), only one has been graded higher
1c-$1.00 1917-19 Issue (498-499, 501-504, 506-518). Mint N.H., rich colors, selected by the owner for superior eye appeal, Extremely Fine group, seven with certificates including six graded XF 90 (506, 507, 508, 515, 516 and 517)
1c-$1.00 1917-19 Issue (498-499, 501-504, 506-518). Plate no. blocks of six, approximately eight Mint N.H. including the 7c and 30c, nearly all are top or bottom positions (eleven tops, four bottoms) except for Nos. 501, 510, 514 and 516 which are sides, the key 50c and $1.00 values are both tops, the former narrow selvage and the latter wide selvage, bright and fresh colors throughout, selected from a larger group of plate blocks for the best centered examplesFRESH AND FINE TO MOSTLY VERY FINE. A DESIRABLE SET OF PLATE BLOCKS OF THE 1917-19 WASHINGTON-FRANKLIN ISSUE, CONTAINING MOSTLY TOP AND BOTTOM POSITIONS.
This is an excellent opportunity to acquire this set, which is lacking only the rare Scott 500 to be complete (Scott 505 does not come in plate block form). The presence of nearly half Mint N.H. examples, and the preponderance of the more desirable top and bottom positions makes this set particularly nice.
1c Green, Vertical Pair, Imperforate Horizontally (498a). Positions 50/60R, with plate no. 7938 selvage at right, lightly hinged, bottom stamp light gum crease, pencil notation in ungummed portion of selvage "Nassau sale", Very Fine appearance and exceedingly rare with the plate no., this is the only example contained in Power Search, Scott Retail as normal pair
2c Lake, Ty. I (499h). Mint N.H., deep rich color on bright paper, reperfed at right not mentioned on accompanying certificate, Fine appearance, a scarce shade, ex "Sirron" and "Golden Oak", with clear 2004 P.F. certificate for a pair
2c Deep Rose, Ty. Ia (500). Mint N.H. with top plate no. 10208 selvage, brilliant color in the distinct shade of the Ty. Ia, fresh and Very Fine, with 2014 P.F. certificate
2c Deep Rose, Ty. Ia (500). Mint N.H., radiant color, tiny natural gum skip, Very Fine and choice, with 2015 P.S.E. certificate

3c Light Violet, Ty. I, Double Impression (501d). Mint N.H. with right selvage, fresh and bright with clear doubling, perfs close to barely into design at top, a desirable and collectible example of this rare printing anomaly, in all likelihood the surviving population of this difficult error is similarly centered, the collector who insists on acquiring this stamp centered will never own one, with 2008 P.S.E. certificate

Choice group of seven Mint N.H. graded stamps, one by P.F. and six by P.S.E., including Nos. 502 (90J), 504 (95J), 506 (95J), 508 (95), 509 (90), 510 (95) and 516 (90J), 8c, 9c and 30c with plate no. selvage, bright and fresh, Extremely Fine Gem group, total SMQ without regard to Jumbo appellations $1,160.00
