Jumbo margins and essentially perfectly centered, deep rich color, barely cancelled with design completely visible, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2011 P.F. and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $300.00 as 98, unpriced in higher grade), one of four to achieve this desirable grade with none higher
2c Carmine (301). Huge margins and essentially perfect centering, vibrant color on fresh paper, neat wavy-line machine cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb stamp, with 2011 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $600.00), this is the highest grade awarded and only one other has achieved this grade
3c Bright Violet (302). Bright vivid color, essentially perfect centering with wide margins, light cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2011 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $750.00), this is the highest grade awarded and only three others share this grade
4c Brown (303). Deep rich color, almost mathematically perfect centering with wide margins, neat San Francisco machine cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb stamp in every respect, with 2011 P.F. and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $560.00), this is one of only two used examples to achieve this lofty grade with none higher, this stamp has a more attractive cancel
5c Blue (304). Mathematically precise centering with Jumbo margins, brilliant color on fresh paper, neat wavy-line machine cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS STUNNING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1902 ISSUE HAS BEEN AWARDED THE ULTIMATE GRADE OF GEM 100 JUMBO BY P.S.E.
With 2011 P.F. and P.S.E. certificates (Gem 100 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $700.00 as 98). This is the highest grade possible on the grading chart and it is shared by only one other
5c Blue (304). Wide margins and precise centering, vibrant color on bright white paper beautifully complemented by a purple registry cancel, fresh and crisp, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2011 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $700.00), only three share this grade and only two have graded higher (including the 100J in the previous lot), however the purple cancel makes this a particularly desirable stamp among the handful of superb graded examples extant
6c Claret (305). Perfect centering with wide margins, gorgeous fresh color on bright paper, neat wavy-line machine cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb stamp in every respect, with 2011 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $720.00), for seven years this has stood as the sole 6c 1902 Issue graded Superb 98, with no others equal to or higher
8c Violet Black (306). Nearly perfect centering, bright shade on fresh paper, unobtrusive cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2011 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $500.00), only two have graded higher and only three others share this grade
10c Deep Red Brown (307). Jumbo margins and near perfect centering, extraordinarily deep rich color, bold oval cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2011 P.F. certificate, with 2010 and 2011 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $640.00 as 98, unpriced in higher grade), one of only two examples to achieve this lofty grade with none higher (the other offered in the following lot), the shade of this stamp sets it apart from other high-grade examples
10c Pale Red Brown (307). Precise centering with extra wide margins, rich color, light cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a huge stamp, with 2011 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $640.00 as 98, unpriced in higher grade), one of only two examples to achieve this lofty grade with none higher (the other offered in the previous lot)
13c Purple Black (308). Jumbo margins and outstanding centering, rich color on fresh paper, mostly face-free oval registry cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a huge stamp, with 2008 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $220.00 as 95, $800.00 as 98), only one has graded higher (at 98) and this is the sole example to achieve a 95J grade
15c Olive Green (309). Essentially perfect centering, huge Jumbo margins, deep rich color and crisp impression, New York oval registry cancelsEXTRMELY FINE GEM. THIS STUNNING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 15-CENT 1902 ISSUE STANDS ALONE AS THE ONLY USED STAMP TO BE GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E. THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.

50c Orange (310). Vibrant color as fresh as the day it was printed, Jumbo margins and precise centering, inside oval of double oval cancel neatly frames Jefferson's face, Extremely Fine Gem, a beautiful stamp, with 2011 P.F. and 2006 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $320.00 as 95, unpriced as 98), this is the highest grade awarded and only one other has equaled this grade
$1.00 Black (311). Perfectly centered with wide and balanced margins, deep shade and detailed impression, face-free corner strike of oval registry cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a gorgeous stamp, with 2011 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $1,000.00), this is the highest grade awarded and only five others share this grade
$2.00 Dark Blue (312). Huge Jumbo margins, essentially perfect centering, rich color and proof-like impression, oval registry cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS SPECTACULAR USED EXAMPLE OF THE $2.00 1902 ISSUE IS THE ONLY ONE GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO IN THE P.S.E. POPULATION REPORT. AN EXCEPTIONAL STAMP IN EVERY RESPECT.
With 2011 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $3,500.00 as 98). This is the only example to achieve this grade, which is the highest awarded. The next highest is a 95J, which was offered in our 2008 Dauer sale
$5.00 Dark Green (313). Gorgeous deep color, choice centering with well proportioned margins, crisp impression, neat cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE $5.00 1902 ISSUE IN THE FINEST CONDITION OBTAINABLE.
With 1994, 2004 and 2006 P.F. certificates (XF-Superb 95). With 2007 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $3,600.00). This is the highest grade awarded and only two others share this grade.
5c Blue, Imperforate (315). Full to huge margins, rich color, face-free strike of duplex cancel, fresh and Extremely Fine, a scarce issue genuinely used, with 2011 P.F. and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (XF 90; SMQ $1,575.00), only one example has graded higher (at 95) and only four others share this grade
5c Blue, Imperforate (315). Horizontal pair, large to huge margins all around, gorgeous rich color and proof-like impression, both stamps with face-free cancelsEXTREMELY FINE. THE 1908 5-CENT IMPERFORATE IS EXTREMELY RARE IN USED CONDITION, ESPECIALLY AS A MULTIPLE.
According to Johl, only 29 sheets of 400 of the 5c imperforate were issued. Most were sent to Indianapolis and the majority was used by manufacturers of private coils. Some unused were no doubt kept by collectors -- 825 copies were distributed to members of the Detroit Philatelic Society. It is possible that most of the used copies originate from this supply.

Mathematically perfect centering, Jumbo margins, deep rich color on fresh paper, light wavy-line machine cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, absolute perfection, with 2009 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, $350.00 as 98), the P.S.E. Population Report lists 12 different 2c Shield stamps under the major Scott Nos. 319, 319F, 320, 320A and sub-shades, this stunning stamp is the only used example of any 2c Shield issue to be graded Gem 100 or Gem 100 Jumbo
2c Carmine Rose, Ty. I (319b). Exceptionally deep rich color, precise centering with wide margins, neat wavy-line machine cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb stamp with incredible depth of color, with 2011 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $310.00), this is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by only one other
