Vertical strip of five with "Printed at the Bureau Engraving & Printing" imprint in left sheet margin, other margins large to huge at right, some very faint creasing visible only when drying and normal for this, Extremely Fine, a beautiful imprint multiple, Scott Retail as singles without premium for the imprint
VERY FINE AND CHOICE. A RARE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-CENT TYPE 2 AYER'S ISSUE ON PINK PAPER.
Only 22 are recorded in the Aldrich census, of which perhaps half are potentially sound.
J. C. Ayer & Co., 4c Blue, Silk Paper, Imperforate (RS10b). Ample even margins all around, bright color on fresh paper, completely sound, Extremely Fine, a beautiful stamp and scarce in such pristine condition

Large to huge margins including top sheet margin with two different part imprints, including National Bank Note Co., also showing outline of the plate at top, deep rich color, completely sound, Extremely Fine Gem, the finest example of this J.C. Ayer stamp we have offered, only 62 are recorded in the Aldrich census and one would be hard pressed to improve upon this example
Barham Pile Cure Co., 4c Green, Watermarked (RS14d). Vertical strip of four with full "Engraved and Printed By The National Bank-Note Co. New York" imprint at left, wide margins and each stamp with choice centering, fresh and Extremely Fine imprint block, Scott Retail as singles
Dr. C. F. Brown, 1c Blue, Old Paper (RS36a). Rich color on bright paper, small corner crease at bottom right is barely noticeable, still Very Fine and choice, ex Tolman, "Scarsdale" and Inman, with 2012 P.F. certificate

J. S. Burdsal & Co., 1c Black, Orange Wrapper, Watermarked (RS45d). Three large margins as normally found on this issue, light creases most likely from placement over containerVERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE EXAMPLE OF THE J. S. BURDSAL ISSUE ON WATERMARKED ORANGE WRAPPER.

Detailed impression, few faults including small tears and thin spots, Very Fine appearance, surprisingly scarce, we have offered only one other since keeping computerized records (none were mentioned in group lots either), the stamp was intended to be broken when the bottle was opened, ex Inman

Jeremiah Curtis & Son, 2c Black, Pink Paper (RS68c). Wide margins and outstanding centering, detailed impression, Extremely Fine Gem, "Mrs. Winslow's Soothing Syrup" is infamous in the history of 19th Century patent medicine as the "baby killer", it was marketed by Jeremiah Curtis, the son-in-law of pediatric nurse Charlotte N. Winslow and contained a level of morphine which was lethal to infants and even larger children, it has been estimated that thousands of children died or suffered withdrawal after being administered the syrup (see lot 596 for examples of Mrs. Winslow's trade cards)
Curtis & Brown Mfg. Co., 1c Black, Pink Paper (RS71c). Extra wide margins and essentially perfect centering, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb example of this diminutive issue, very rare in this exceptional quality
Curtis & Brown Mfg. Co., 2c Black, Watermarked (RS72d). Original gum, wonderfully choice centering with wide and balanced margins, tiny thin speck at right, still an Extremely Fine Gem, only 24 are recorded in the Aldrich book and at least 16 have faults -- many quite severe, this is by far the finest example we have offered in our auctions since keeping computerized records more than 25 years ago
