10c Green, Type I (13). Original gum, lightly hinged, large margins to full at left, deep rich color and detailed impressionVERY FINE AND CHOICE. A GORGEOUS LIGHTLY HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1855 10-CENT TYPE I, WHICH WAS FURNISHED ONLY BY THE BOTTOM ROW OF THE PLATE. VERY FEW SOUND ORIGINAL-GUM TYPE I STAMPS EXIST, PARTICULARLY WITH THE MARGINS SEEN ON THIS STAMP.
Type I stamps come from the bottom 20 positions of the plate. They are the only stamps to show the design complete at bottom. For some reason the sheet margin at bottom was often trimmed away, leaving a dearth of quality copies. The Type IV stamps (Scott 16) come from only eight positions, but we would rank the two types equally in terms of the rarity of sound original-gum copies.

10c Green, Type I (13). Position 92L1, enormous margins all around including bottom sheet margin and portion of adjoining stamp at right, deep rich color, town datestampEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1855 10-CENT TYPE I IN THE FINEST CONDITION POSSIBLE.
The 10c Type I stamps are defined as having complete scrolls at bottom. They are only found on the bottom row of the plate (20 positions). For some reason, they were usually trimmed at bottom when they were separated, leaving a dearth of quality copies. This example, with its enormous margins, is an extreme exception to the rule.
Ex Kirke. With 2011 P.F. and 2010 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98; SMQ $6,250.00). Only one grades higher (at 98J) and only four others share this grade.
10c Green, Type I (13). Position 100L1, large to huge margins all around including bottom right corner interpane margins with centerline, bright color, unobtrusive strike of circular datestamp, few small toned spots mostly on back not mentioned on accompanying certificate, still an Extremely Fine Gem, for some reason most examples of No. 13 have the bottom margins trimmed away, the stamp offered here is a true rarity, ex Emerson, with 1998 P.F. certificate
10c Green, Type I (13). Position 91R1, large to huge margins including left interpane margin with centerline, rich color, neat circular datestamp cancel, faint corner creases at left and bottom right visible when drying, miniscule nick in sheet margin only at top left, Extremely Fine appearance
10c Dark Green, Type I (13 var). Position 98L1, exceptional depth of color in the Dark Green sub-shade, large to huge margins including trace of adjoining stamp at top, town circular datestamp, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb stamp, with 2001 P.F. certificate
10c Green, Types II/III/I (14/15/13). Positions 79/89/99L1, vertical three-type combination strip of three with Type I at bottom, large to ample margins with the Type I stamp particularly choice, deep rich color, light strikes of New Orleans circular datestamp, light horizontal crease just into design at bottom of middle stampVERY FINE APPEARANCE. A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE STRIP OF THREE OF THE 10-CENT 1855 IMPERFORATE ISSUE, COMBINING TYPES I, II AND III.

10c Green, Type I (13). Large to massive margins including huge bottom sheet margin, rich color, tied by "Lowell Mass. Jan. 17" circular datestamp on small neat cover to Columbia Cal., Extremely Fine Gem stamp and cover paying the over-3000 mile rate to California via Panama, ex Brown and Krug
10c Green, Type I (13). Large to huge margins including 7mm bottom sheet margin, dark color, tied by "Yreka Cal. Oct. 29 185?" circular datestamp on cover to Elizabethtown Ky. charge box notation, some faint cover toning spots barely affecting the stamp in the sheet margin, still Extremely Fine and scarce with such a large sheet margin, for some reason most examples of the 10c Type I Imperforate have the bottom sheet margin trimmed, with clear 1981 P.F. certificate
10c Green, Type I (13). Three huge margins, ample at right, used with 1c Blue, Type IV (9) and 3c Dull Red, Type II (11A), two 1c (Positions 7L1L and 44L1L, different shades), full to large margins, 3c large margins to just barely in, tied by two bold strikes of "San Francisco Cal. 21 May" (1856) circular datestamp and red "United States" in oval cross-border handstamp on buff cover to Fredericton, New Brunswick, receiving backstamp, backflap removed and minor edge tears at top, 10c small barely detectable corner crease, still Very Fine, a rare 1851-55 Issue franking for the 15c West Coast rate to British North America, ex Emerson, Piller and Vogel
