Baton Rouge La., 5c Green & Carmine (11X2). Ample margins to touched at bottom, fresh colors, Baton Rouge circular datestamp, Fine, with 1988 P.F. certificate
Canton Miss., 5c Black entire (14XU1). Clear strike of “PAID/5/P” Star in Circle provisional handstamp, “Canton Miss. Nov. 4, 1861” circular datestamp on cover to Carroll Hoy & Co. in New Orleans, usual pinholes, Very Fine
Charleston S.C., 2c Brown, 10c Blue Green, Essays on Wove (Dietz E-11, E-12). Large margins, on watermarked paper, 2c similar to design used for the entires and issued stamp, 10c also similar but with Palmetto tree at center as on the 1862 10c provisional entire, both with light toningVERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE PAIR OF THE 2-CENT AND 10-CENT CHARLESTON SOUTH CAROLINA PROVISIONAL ESSAYS.
Little is known about these designs, except that they are printed on the same paper as the issued 5c stamps. The Calhoun book notes it seems likely the postmaster originally considered the idea of 2c, 5c and 10c stamps and that the 2c and 10c were likely discarded due to the cost of printing.

Columbia S.C., 5c Blue entire (18XU1). Bold strike with "Paid" straightline, blue "Columbia S.C. 11 Dec." (1861) circular datestamp on orange cover to Grindal Shoals La., slight edge wear and small stain at top left, otherwise Very Fine
Columbia S.C., 5c Blue entire, Seal on Back (18XU4a). Remarkably clear strike of oval provisional handstamp on side flap, "Paid" in circle and "5" rate handstamp with matching bold "Columbia S.C. Jul. 26" (1861) circular datestamp on yellow cover to Chester S.C., flap folded out, stains expertly removed, Extremely Fine appearance
Fredericksburg Va., 10c Red on Thin Bluish (26X2). Unused (no gum), full to large margins all around, small faint thin spot near top but free of the creasing that often affects this fragile paper, small trace of blue ink at bottom right, Very Fine appearance, scarce with approximately 35 copies known -- none are known genuinely used, ex Wishnietsky
Knoxville Tenn., 5c Brick Red on Grayish Laid (47X1). Large margins to touched at right with tiny edge nick, cancelled by single pen stroke on small piece of cover, Fine, wtih 1989 C.S.A. certificate
Knoxville Tenn., 5c Blue entire (47XU1). Uncancelled as usual, addressed to Speedville Tenn., few age spots, otherwise Very Fine, ex Boshwit, only fourteen are recorded in the Crown survey
Knoxville Tenn., 5c Blue, Cut Square (47XU1). 31 x 33mm, rich color, Very Fine, with 1982 P.F. certificate, Scott Retail for full entire $2,500.00
Lynchburg Va., 5c Black on Amber entire (52XU2). Light strike of circular datestamp with July (1861) date at right, addressed to Amherst C.H. Va., cover slightly reduced at top and missing backflap, small tear just into rim of datestamp, still Fine and rare, the Calhoun census lists only 15 examples of the Lynchburg provisional envelope on any kind of paper, with 1996 C.S.A. certificate
Macon Ga., 5c Black on Light Blue Green Wove, Comma After "Office" (53X1). Ample to large margins all around, Macon double-circle datestamp cancel, lightly soiled, appears Extremely Fine, very scarce four-margin example with the Comma after "Office" variety, with 2006 P.F. certificate, significantly undercatalogued in Scott
Mobile Ala., 2c Black, 5c Blue (58X1-58X2). Single of 2c, margins to touched, tiny thins and bit of toning at bottom, appears Fine, 2c horizontal pair tied to small piece of yellow cover by "Mobile Ala. Aug. 24, 1861" double-circle datestamp, margins to touched at bottom, Fine
Mobile Ala., 5c Blue (58X2). Torn irregularly from sheet with bottom left corner missing, tied by "Mobile Ala. Oct. 1, 1861" double-circle datestamp on buff cover to Ashland Miss., missing backflap, otherwise Fine, with 1989 P.S.E. certificate
Nashville Tenn., 5c Brick Red (61X3). Horizontal pair, ample margins to barely touching, rich color but two distinctly different impressions (these were printed using a work-and-turn method), blue "Nashville Ten. Nov. 23, 1861" circular datestamp, slight thinning as almost always, Very Fine appearance, pairs of the 5c Nashville are extremely rare, particularly the printings in Carmine or Brick Red -- our records contain ten used pairs (one strip of three) of either shade, more than half of which are on covers -- this being among the finest of all recorded multiples, ex Birkinbine
Nashville Tenn., 10c Green (61X6). Huge margins at top and right, just in at sections of bottom and left, beautiful intense color, cancelled on bottom right corner by blue Nashville datestampFINE. A RARE SOUND AND LIGHTLY CANCELLED EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT NASHVILLE PROVISIONAL.
Only approximately 25 examples of the 10c Nashville are known, most of which are faulty. With 1986 P.F. certificate
New Orleans La., 2c Blue, 2c Red, 5c Brown Shades (62X1-62X5). Complete set of the New Orleans Provisional adhesives less the extremely rare 5c Red, incl. two 2c Blue and three 2c Red, the 2c stamps unused (no gum), Nos. 62X3-62X5 incl. first unused and other two used, small flaws incl. some staining on the 2c stamps, appear Fine
New Orleans La., 5c Red Brown on Bluish (62X4). Enormous margins at sides, ample at top and bottom, tied by partly clear strike of New Orleans circular datestamp on cover to Memphis Tenn., missing backflap and roughly opened removing piece from top but stamp is unaffected, Very Fine and choice stamp
Petersburg Va., 5c Red (65X1). Position 2, large margins to just barely touched, bright color, tied by well-struck “Petersburg Va. 5cts. Dec. 20” integral-rate circular datestamp on 1861 folded letter to Blacks & Whites Va.VERY FINE. A CHOICE EXAMPLE OF THE PETERSBURG POSTMASTER’S PROVISIONAL TIED BY THE SCARCE “DROPPED 5 CTS” INTEGRAL-RATE DATESTAMP.
The Petersburg integral-rate datestamp on this cover is the “Dropped 5 cts” variety, in which the value extends below the rim of the circular datestamp.

Tellico Plains Tenn., 5c Red (81X1). Setting A with period after "Johnson", part original gum, huge margins top and right, clear other sides, paper with clear laid lines, blue backstamp does not show thru on an album page, Fine, the Rheatown and Tellico Plains provisionals were printed by the same printer using a typeset form of three subjects, only two of the Tellico Plains stamps are known used, including one on cover, unused copies are not common either, Power Search contains fewer than ten others
Confederate Postmasters' Provisionals. 11 items on a stock card, incl. 3c Nashville (4AX1), 5c Charleston (16X1), 5c Fredericksburg (26X1), 2c and 5c Memphis (56X1-56X2, two of first plus a partial print block, three of second incl. one used), 5c Carmine Nashville (61X2), 5c Petersburg (65X1), most with small flaws but attractive and collectible, Fine appearance, No. 61X2 with 1986 P.F. certificate
