5c Chocolate, Vertical Pair, Imperforate Horizontally (255c). Original gum, lightly hinged, unusually choice centering, dark color and detailed impressionVERY FINE PAIR OF THE RARE UNWATERMARKED 5-CENT 1894 ISSUE IMPERFORATE HORIZONTALLY.
It is believed that most examples of this error originate from a part sheet purchased by a collector at the Richmond Va. post office. The unique unused block of nine with imprint and plate number, ex Col. Green collection, also originated from this find.
With 2002 P.F. certificate
5c Chocolate, Vertical Pair, Imperforate Horizontally (255c). Unused (no gum), beautiful centering with wide margins at top and bottom, rich color, Extremely Fine, scarce, it is believed that most examples of this error originate from a part sheet purchased by a collector at the Richmond Va. post office, most tend to be off center, with 2001 P.F. certificate, Scott Retail with gum
6c Dull Brown, Vertical Pair, Imperforate Horizontally (256a). Original gum, h.r. at top, bright color, Fine-Very Fine, Brookman notes that the source of this error is likely a Western post office, most examples we have encountered are centered to the left to varying degrees
$1.00 Black, Ty. II (261A). Original gum, lightly hinged, intense shade and impression nicely contrasted by bright white paper, beautifully centeredEXTREMELY FINE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1894 $1.00 TYPE II UNWATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE.
With 1991 and 2011 P.F. certificates
$2.00 Bright Blue (262). Block of four, bright color and detailed impression, attractive margins and centering, unobtrusive strikes of oval cancels, few perf separations, right stamps with some lightly toned perf tips, we also noted bottom left stamp light creases the last time we offered this block but this is not mentioned on accompanying certificateFINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE USED BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE $2.00 1894 UNWATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE. THIS IS THE LARGEST RECORDED USED MULTIPLE.
According to Linn's U.S. Stamp Facts, a block of four is the largest recorded used multiple of the $2.00 1894 Unwatermarked Bureau Issue.
With 2007 P.F. certificate
$2.00-$5.00 1894-95 Bureau Issues (262-263, 277-278). Five used stamps including two of No. 278, attractive margins and centering, mostly light cancels, a few small flaws, overall Fine-Very Fine or appear so
$5.00 Dark Green (263). Original gum slightly disturbed from hinge removal (certificate simply says "previously hinged"), wide margins, deep color and highly detailed impression, Very Fine, with 2005 P.F. certificate
2c Carmine, Ty. III (267). Mint N.H., deep shade and detailed impression on bright paper, gorgeous centering, Extremely Fine Gem, ex Merlin, with 2009 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $1,000.00), only two have graded higher
4c Dark Brown (269). Mint N.H., deep shade, perfectly centered, Extremely Fine Gem, a beautiful stamp, ex "Golden Oak", with 2014 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $1,400.00), only four have graded higher
5c Chocolate (270). Mint N.H., wide selvage with part imprint at top, unusually choice centering with Jumbo margins, gorgeous color, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb stamp, ex "Hampshire", with 2006 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $1,450.00), only six grade higher (at 98)
8c Violet Brown, USIR Watermark (272a). Wide and balanced margins, bold and complete "I" of watermark, small tear at lower left is well obscured by the cancel, appears Extremely Fine, with 2020 P.F. certificate
8c Violet Brown, Imperforate (272b). Mint N.H. pair, large to huge margins including bottom right corner sheet margins, deep rich color, Extremely Fine, with 1994 P.F. certificate
$1.00 Black, Ty. I (276). Original gum, gorgeous centering, intense shade and detailed impression, Extremely Fine, with 2006 P.F. certificate (XF 90)
$1.00 Black, Ty. II (276A). Original gum, hinge mark, deep shade and impression, well-centered, Very Fine, ex Dr. Larson, with 1996 P.F. certificate
4c Lilac Brown, Kiss Print (280a var). Original gum, lightly hinged, rich color on bright paper, light kiss print at bottom and lower right, wide and balanced margins, Extremely Fine, with 2007 P.S.E. certificate (OGph, XF 90; SMQ $150.00 with no premium for the kiss print, which is very unusual)
6c Lake (282). Mint N.H., brilliant color, perfectly centered with balanced margins, Extremely Fine Gem, one of the most difficult stamps of the series to obtain in such superb condition, with 2001 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $1,400.00)
10c Brown, Ty. I (282C). Original gum, bright color, choice centering with exceptionally wide margins, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2010 P.S.E. certificate (OGh, XF-Superb 95; SMQ $650.00)
