Clear strike of oval express company handstamp (HOF-100) on cover to San Francisco, red "Windsor Vt. 31 May" circular datestamp and manuscript "40" cent rate, Very Fine and scarce, the Thomas book records only seven examples of this marking and reports that F.J. Hoffman ran this early express operation between Sacramento and the Placerville area, late in 1851 the express was dissolved

II) depicting Abraham Lincoln and with 1865 date affixed to back of folded cover franked with 2c Black (73), s.e. at left, tied by partly clear strike of Philadelphia Pa. double-circle datestamp and addressed to Baltimore Md., label with small bit of oxidation and tiny margin nick, file folds not affecting stamp or label, Very Fine, the Johnson's Box labels are believed by some specialists to be advertising labels applied to letters taken from a local merchant's mail-drop box, this one with the Lincoln design is the first example to appear in Power Search, with clear 2009 P.F. certificate
