30c Orange (71). Unused (no gum), vibrant color as fresh as the day it was printed, gorgeous centering with wide marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1861 ISSUE.
With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $3,000.00). This is the highest grade awarded to any unused example of this issue. Scott 71 is notorious for its normally narrow margins, and the stamp offered here is a true condition rarity.
30c Orange (71). Block of four, original gum, h.r., vivid color and impression, top stamps light horizontal crease is barely noticeable, few trivial toned spots on backFINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE ORIGINAL-GUM BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE 30-CENT 1860 ISSUE. A BLOCK OF FOUR IS THE LARGEST RECORDED UNUSED MULTIPLE.
Probably 15 to 20 unused blocks of four are known. The two blocks from the Zoellner and Whitman collections originally formed a block of eight.

Block of 21, original gum, generally h.r. except few lightly hinged, bright shade, few perf separations sensibly reinforced, toned spots affect two stamps at upper left, vertical crease affects fourth row, diagonal crease and perf flaw affects top right stampFINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE BLOCK OF 21 OF THE 1863 2-CENT BLACK JACK ISSUE.

5c Red Brown (75). Rich color on bright paper, bold strike of San Francisco cogwheel cancel, Very Fine and choice, with 1988 and 1992 P.F. certificates.
5c Deep Red Brown (75 var). Intense shade and impression, neat strike of red grid cancel, Very Fine and choice example of this sub-shade, ex Jennings, with 1991 P.F. certificate, pencil note on back from Ashbrook reads "Brownish Red-a shade not listed. Too Brown for 75, too Red for 76 S.B.A."
