24c Brown Lilac (70a). Original gum, gorgeous color, full margins and choice centeringVERY FINE AND CHOICE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1861 24-CENT BROWNISH LILAC.
The color is a soft brownish shade, which is quite distinctive and much different than the Red Lilac (1862) or later Lilac (1863-66) printings. It is particularly difficult to obtain in sound, centered and original-gum condition.

24c Steel Blue (70b). Part original gum which covers more than half the stamp, rich color in this desirable shade, centered to left but with perfs clear, wide margins other sides, trivial diagonal creaseVERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 1861 24-CENT STEEL BLUE.
The Steel Blue shade was produced early in the series of 24c 1861 shades, and it is scarce in any condition. Examples with any of their original gum are rare

24c Violet, Thin Paper (70c). Well-centered, true "Cincinnati" Violet shade with appropriate blue grid cancel used in that city's post office, some thin spots (several filled), Very Fine appearance, with 2012 Weiss certificate
24c Violet, Thin Paper (70c). Remarkably well-centered, light red cancel and pen strokes, a bit of toning removed from top left corner, otherwise Extremely Fine, with 2001 P.F. certificate, Scott Retail as handstamp cancel without the pen cancel
30c Orange (71). Well-centered with perfs clear of design on all sides, bright color, neat "Phila. Pa. Aug 12 1864" yeardate circular datestamp, insignificant short perf at lower right, still Very Fine and choice, with 2012 P.S.E. certificate (VF-XF 85; SMQ $325.00)
30c Orange (71). Warm color, nice margins and centering, bold strike of Tell City Ind. 4-bar grid in circle cancel with part of red exchange marking at bottom right, Very Fine, with 2011 P.F. certificate
30c Orange (71). Wide margins to touched at left, blue Chicago Supplementary Mail cancel, Fine and attractive, with 2010 P.F. certificate
90c Blue (72). Fantastic wide margins deserving of Jumbo appellation, beautifully centered, bright color and paper, unusual circle of wedges cancel, Extremely Fine, with 2003 P.S.E., 2008 and 2011 P.F. certificates (VF-XF 85), a gorgeous stamp worthy of a much better numerical grade
2c Black (73). Horizontal pair, choice centering, cancelled by grid of small squares, left stamp tiny corner crease at bottom left holds down the P.S.E. grade for the pair, right stamp completely sound and Extremely Fine Gem, with 2012 P.S.E. certificate (VF 80; unpriced in SMQ as pair)
3c Scarlet (74). Four neat pen strokes, part original gum, strong vibrant color, small top left corner nick, otherwise Fine, a rare stamp, as has been documented by Jerome S. Wagshal in a series of Chronicle articles (Nos. 56, 60, 61 and 62), Carl F. Rothfuchs, a Washington D.C. stamp dealer, obtained a supply of the 3c Scarlet in 1893 -- probably from the Post Office Department in exchange for his assistance with the Columbian Exposition -- and sold them with pen marks and original gum.
3c Scarlet (74). Four neat penstrokes, bright color and well-centered, light vertical crease and repaired at upper right, Very Fine appearance, as has been documented by Jerome S. Wagshal in a series of Chronicle articles (Nos. 56, 60, 61 and 62), Carl F. 5c Red Brown (75). Wonderful warm color, neat strikes of target cancel, far better centering than normally seenEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1862 5-CENT RED BROWN.
With 2012 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $4,275.00). This is the highest grade awarded and only three others share this grade.
5c Red Brown (75). Deep rich color, choice margins and centering, socked-on-the-nose target cancel, Extremely Fine, with 2012 P.F. certificate (VF-XF 85)
15c Black (77). Intense shade and impression, bright paper, nicely complemented by magenta quartered cork cancel, Extremely Fine, scarce with the magenta cancel, we have offered only one other off-cover since keeping computerized records, with 2012 P.S.E. certificate
24c Lilac (78). Fresh color on crisp paper, neat target cancel, wide margins, Extremely Fine, with 2010 P.F. certificate
24c Gray (78b). Rich color and detailed impression on bright paper, neat strike of cork cancel, Very Fine and choice, with 2008 P.F. certificate
24c Blackish Violet (78c). Light cork cancel, small corner creases top right and bottom left, small tear bottomVERY GOOD APPEARANCE. AN AFFORDABLE EXAMPLE OF THIS VERY RARE AND ELUSIVE 1861-66 ISSUE SHADE THAT IS MISSING IN MOST ADVANCED CLASSIC UNITED STATES COLLECTIONS.
