2c 1869 Picorial Issue Specialized Collection. An outstanding specialized collection of the 2c 1869 Post Rider Issue in two binders from the Robert T. Goldman collection, comprising proofs, essays, used stamps and covers, starting with 18 copies of No. 113E3e in a variety of shades, single of No. 113E3d -- the scarce without grill perforated plate essay (Scott Retail $425.00), block of No. 113P3, the highlight of the collection is a cancel study of approx. 70 singles and four covers, incl. insects, shields, stovepipe, masonics, stars, carrier, towns, wonderful variety of positive and negative letters, red, blue and orange colored cancels and others, also incl. few varieties such as paper fold, double grill and two bisects on pieces (Scott Retail $6,000.00 for full cover), one is vertical bisect used alone (P.F.C.), other is diagonal bisect in pair with normal stamp (ex Coulter), some faults to be expected as the owner's focus was on nice strikes, overall a fascinating and valuable collection with a number of items that could have been individual lots, several P.F. certificates accompany, Scott Retail for normal stamps and covers with no premium for fancy cancels or bisects more than $10,500.00

2c Brown, Plate Proof on Card, Specimen Overprint (113P4-S). Blue 10.5mm overprint reading up, three huge margins to ample at right, rich color, Very Fine and choice and extremely rare, an upcoming article in the Chronicle will discuss these overprints which are believed to originate with a foreign postal administration, approximately four are known on the 2c value, each a different type and unique, unlisted in Scott, with 1990 P.S.E. certificate stating overprint is "of unknown origin"

This is the only plate number block we have offered since our 1992 Rarities of the World sale contained another top position block in a part sheet of 120. That block was perforated through the plate number.

A STUNNING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE, WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED TO DATE.
With 2010 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $2,150.00 as 98). This is the highest grade awarded to date in any category and only one other shares this grade
