2c Carmine & Black, 5c Dark Blue & Black, Norse-American (620-621). Massive accumulation of 112 2c and 22 5c plate blocks, mostly blocks of six but some larger present in the 2c, original gum, all of the 5c are hinged, some lightly, a spot check of the 2c found a substantial majority to be hinged but there are certainly some Mint N.H. as well, obviously a wide range of plate number combinations, we cannot guarantee that all 32 possible combinations for the 2c are present but it is probably not far from complete, also includes an accumulation of blocks of four and singles, an occasional gum or selvage problem may be encountered, Fine-Very Fine with plenty in the latter category, Scott value for the plate blocks only as all hinged more than $27,000.00

EXTREMELY FINE. AN EXCEPTIONALLY RARE PLATE NUMBER 22176 BLOCK OF TEN OF THE 20-CENT 1938 PRESIDENTIAL ISSUE. THIS IS PROBABLY THE RAREST 20TH CENTURY PLATE NUMBER.

Plate number 22176 is almost assuredly the rarest plate number in 20th Century U.S. philately, perhaps rivaled only by one of the 1954 8c Liberty combination plate blocks (Scott 1041). Power Search contains one plate number single offered in our sales in the past 30 years. The plate blocks offered in this sale are the only examples we have encountered. This lightly hinged large format plate block is particularly desirable.
