Mint N.H. block of four, left stamps Type II, radiant color, Fine combination block, of the six plates used to print the Type II stamp (Scott 266), only one, plate 170, contained a combination of both Types II and III -- only three rows from one pane were Type II, leaving a total of ten positions out of the plate that can yield this combination of types, ex Hall, Scott Retail as two pairs

8c Violet Brown, USIR Watermark (272a). Horizontal pair with full imprint at top, unused (no gum), "I" of watermark in selvage and "R" of watermark split between stamps, few perf separations sensibly reinforced, some light staining at topFINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE "IR" POSITION PAIR OF THE 8-CENT 1895 ISSUE WITH "U S I R" WATERMARK.
The "USIR" (United States Internal Revenue) watermark error occurred when a supply of paper reserved for revenue stamp production was used for printing the 6c and 8c postage stamps. There are approximately 75 known of the 8c with approximately ten unused, but many are either off-center or have flaws.
