(CUBA) Carlos Manuel de Cespedes. Autograph letter signed "Cespedes", dated July 11, 1869 with "Republica de Cuba Julio 10 1869" datestamp with flag and shield design at upper left, contents (translated) reads "The Revolutionary meeting took place yesterday. One of the members took in a collection. You better than any person know that in my fight for the country I have lost everything for the cause. I beg you to send by messenger the money I lent you last year which is needed to solve some of my problems urgently, it is needed for immediate solution", a rare letter signed by the central figure in Cuba's struggle to free slaves and gain independence from Spain, this was signed the day after the Republic was declared, accompanied by three bank notes and a bond for 1,000 pesos
