$2.00 Carmine & Black, $2.00 Lake & Black (547, 547a). Both have wide margins and choice centering, distinctly different colors, neat cancels, Extremely Fine, a great opportunity to acquire both Scott-listed shades of this issue, ex Twigg-Smith, in our opinion the Lake & Black shade is undercatalogued in Scott, the existence of this shade has been known for a long time yet we have encountered very few
5c Pilgrim Tercentenary (550). Wide and perfectly balanced margins, intense color, unobtrusive cancel leaves entire design clearly visible, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2009 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $540.00), this is the highest grade awarded to date and it is the only example to achieve this grade
-1/2c-$5.00 1922-25 Issue (551-562, 564-573, 573a, 622-623). Used, lacking only the 11c to be complete, incl. both shades of the $5.00, each stamp individually selected for superior centering and condition, range of cancels incl. registry oval, mute oval, circular datestamps, few others, rich colors, Extremely Fine Gems, an extremely difficult group to assemble in such superb condition, three with 2009 P.S.E. certificates (2c graded 95, 10c graded 98, $2.00 graded 95J)
2c Carmine, Perf 10 at Bottom (554d). Brilliant color, detailed impression, crisp paper, neat machine cancelVERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE 1922 2-CENT PERF 10 AT BOTTOM. THIS IS ONE OF THE FINEST COPIES IN EXISTENCE.
At a certain point during production one of the perforating wheels became defective. In the course of repairs part of one perforation wheel was inadvertently changed from Perf 11 to Perf 10. Based on the physical evidence of surviving copies, this was the nineteenth row of pins on the wheel.
Many examples of the Perf 10 on One Side rarities show transitional perfs from 10 to 11 or from 11 to 10. This is because the out-of-gauge perforation pins would frequently cross the span of more than one stamp, depending on where the wheel contacted the sheet.
The Perf 10 on One Side varieties span both the 1917 Washington-Franklin and 1922-23 Issues. It is interesting to note that, apart from the 2c, there is no duplication of denomination between the issues. This would seem to indicate that the improperly repaired wheel was in use for only a short period of time, as there was little overlap in production of the issues. Based on dates of issue of the basic stamps, this probably occurred early in 1923.
Our census of Scott 554d, available at http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/554d/554d.pdf , records 20 used singles, four contained in a block and four covers, for a total of 28. None is known unused. Seven of the 20 have flaws, and of the 13 sound singles perhaps four compare favorably to the example offered here.

4c Yellow Brown, Perf 10 at Top (556b). Rich color, light strike of oval registry cancel, transitional perfs at top where perforated 10 at left to perforated 11 at rightFINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 4-CENT MARTHA WASHINGTON PERFORATED 10 AT TOP. ONLY TWO REGULARLY-CANCELLED COPIES ARE KNOWN, AND THIS IS THE ONLY ONE IN SOUND CONDITION. IT IS ESPECIALLY DESIRABLE WITH TRANSITIONAL PERFORATIONS.

Four of the six used copies have precancels and so cannot be confirmed as having gone thru the the mails. Of the two regularly-cancelled copies, this is the only one in sound condition.

None is known unused. Only four singles and the cover are known with regular cancels -- the others are precancelled. The stamp on the cover and one of the singles have faults, leaving only three sound regularly-cancelled in existence.

10c Orange, Perf 10 at Top (562c). Horizontal pair, both stamps Perf 10 at top, rich color, bold strike of Chicago oval registry cancelVERY FINE. THIS PAIR CONTAINS THE ONLY TWO RECORDED REGULARLY-CANCELLED COPIES OF THE 10-CENT MONROE PERFORATED 10 AT TOP OR BOTTOM. A PHENOMENAL RARITY.

All other used copies have precancels. This pair contains the only two regularly-cancelled copies.
Census No. 562c-CAN-PR-13. Accompanied by typed note reading in part "Discovered last summer (1947) among bundled stamps sorting for shipment abroad." Note also has normal single with pre-printing paperfold. With 2001 P.S.E. and 2009 P.F. certificates.
11c Light Blue (563). Perfect centering with Jumbo margins, brilliant color on bright paper, unobtrusive wavy-line machine cancel, long and full perforations all around, Extremely Fine Gem, a phenomenal stamp in every respect, with 2009 P.S.E. certificate (Gem 100 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 98, SMQ $250.00 as 98), this is the highest grade awarded to date in any category and it is the only example to achieve this grade, only two other denominations of the set have used examples with the same perfect grade (the 2c with two copies and one copy of the 15c)
25c Yellow Green, Perf 10 at Right (568c). Deep rich color and proof-like impression, neat strike of "1" oval grid cancel, small crease at top right, tiny pinhole at right centerFINE APPEARANCE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 1922 25-CENT NIAGARA FALLS PERFORATED 10 ON ONE SIDE. ONLY SIX USED SINGLES ARE RECORDED. ONE OF THE RAREST OF THE PERFORATED 10 ON ONE SIDE VARIETIES.

Unlike the other flat plate perf 10 on one side varieties, the 25c is perforated 10 at either left or right. This is due to the horizontal orientation of the stamp.

Four of the six have either roller cancels or precancels, and all have similar centering.

1c Green, Rotary (578). Gorgeous centering with wide and balanced margins, deep rich color on bright paper, neat strike of 1924 duplex cancel, long and full perforations all around, Extremely Fine Gem, a superb stamp in every respect, the earliest documented use is November 7, 1923 and having a contemporary yeardate so clearly visible is a wonderful bonus, with 1990 P.F. certificate
2c Carmine, Rotary (579). Brilliant color on bright paper, wide and balanced margins, neat slogan machine cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, this issue went thru the rotary perforator in one direction as part of the production for coil issues but was then perforated 11 in the other direction a flat plate perforating machine, this combination of different perforating machines makes this issue extremely difficult issue to obtain with such wide margins and choice centering
1c-10c 1923-26 Issue, Perf 10 (581-591). Complete used set, brilliant colors, each individually selected for superior centering and overall eye appeal, nice range of cancels, Extremely Fine Gems, a gorgeous complete set which would be very difficult to duplicate, its low catalogue value is deceptive as this Rotary Press issue is difficult to find with such choice centering
