AN EXTREMELY RARE ORIGINAL-GUM BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE 1870 15-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY GRILLED ISSUE. PERHAPS TWO OR THREE ARE KNOWN.

15c Orange, Split Grill (141 var.). H. Grill, light cork cancel, Fine, while the premium for this variety is relatively small, the 15c with split grills is not offered frequently, with 2007 P.F. certificate
24c Purple, Grill (142). H. Grill, easily discernible grill points, bright shade, choice centering, bold strike of blue cork cancelEXTREMELY FINE. A GORGEOUS USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1870 24-CENT NATIONAL BANK NOTE COMPANY GRILLED ISSUE. ESPECIALLY RARE WITH A PROMINENT BLUE CANCEL.
We can count on one hand the number of Scott 142's with blue cancels we have offered.
With 1999 P.F. and 2009 P.S.E. certificates (F-VF 75; SMQ $3,000.00 as 70, $6,000.00 as 80). In our opinion the P.S.E. did not give this a fair grade.
