Full well-balanced margins, rich color, cancelled by black West Poultney Vt. circular datestamp, Very Fine and choice, an exceptionally rare 5c 1847 postmarked at West Poultney -- which did not receive shipments of the 1847 Issue, a single example on cover (sold in our Sale 980) exists as well as this single off-cover example, no others are known to us, ex Emerson, Rose and Wall, with 1999 P.F. certificate, Scott Retail as single with black town cancel does not adequately reflect the rarity of this stamp
