5c Dark Blue, Colored Border, 1865 Issue (PR1). Without gum as issued, gorgeous centering and margins, intense shade, minor pencil markings on back not mentioned on certificate, Extremely Fine, with 2014 P.F. certificate (XF 90 XQ), the "XQ" denotes "Extraordinary Quality"
5c Dark Blue, Colored Border, 1865 Issue (PR1). Without gum as issued, fresh color which is distinctly lighter than the previous lot, well-centered, Very Fine and choice, ex Weisman and Floyd, with 1991 P.S.E. certificate as Dark Blue No. PR1, with 1991 P.F. certificate as "Light Blue" but catalogued as PR1 (the 1991 Scott Catalogue did have a listing for No. PR1a "Light Blue"), Scott value as PR1 Dark Blue

Strong color, blue "P" brushstroke cancel, typical faults including a couple small tears and trimmed perfs at bottom rightFINE APPEARING AND RARE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1865 NEWSPAPER ISSUE. THIS EXAMPLE HAS BETTER APPEARANCE THAN NORMALLY ENCOUNTERED.
The few genuinely used examples of this issue we have offered all have faults to varying degrees. Only one other listed in Power Search (ex "Golden Oak") has comparable appearance to this example.

According to the Scott Catalogue, the Continental Bank Note Co. made a second special printing from new plates, which did not have the colored border. They exist both perforated and imperforate, and were not regularly issued.
