5c Red Brown, Double Transfer Ty. A (1-A). Position 80R1, clear double transfer and worn-plate impression, original gum, full margins to just clear at lower right, small thin spot at bottom leftFINE APPEARANCE. A RARE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE WITH DOUBLE TRANSFER TYPE A.
This is the only unused example of the 5c 1847 with the Type A double transfer listed in Power Search. With 2021 P.F. certificate. Unlisted in Scott as unused. Scott value an ordinary original-gum No. 1
5c Red Brown (1). Part original gum that covers about one-third of the stamp, large to full margins, rich color and crisp intermediate impression, small bleached spot at left, otherwise Very Fine, with 1988 P.F. certificate, Scott value $6,000.00 with gum and $2,100.00 without gum
5c Dark Brown (1a). Part disturbed original gum that covers more than half the stamp, large margins to just touching at bottom, strong color and intermediate impression, scissors-cut in right margin, Fine appearance, with 2000 P.S.E. certificate, Scott value $7,000.00 with gum and $2,400.00 without gum

5c Dark Brown (1a). Large margins to ample including left sheet margin, rich deep shade and early impression, red St. Louis 10c integral-rate circular datestamp, slight manuscript offset on back, Extremely Fine and attractive with the sheet margin, ex Saadi and Gross, with 2020 P.F. certificate
5c Orange Brown (1b). Large to huge margins including part of adjoining stamp at bottom, radiant color and intermediate impression, red grid cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM USED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN THE ORANGE BROWN SHADE.
With 2017 P.F. certificate (XF-Superb 95). By way of comparison, the highest grade awarded by P.S.E. is also a 95.
5c Orange Brown (1b). Large margins, rich color identified on certificates as Orange Brown, but we think this is a "classic" Brown Orange from the cleaned plate, black "(Michigan Cen)tral R.(R.)" route agent's circular datestamp also points to an appropriate late use, Extremely Fine, a beautiful stamp whatever the proper color identification, ex Saadi and Gross, with 1992 and 2020 P.F. certificates as Orange Brown No. 1b (XF 90)
5c Orange Brown (1b). Large margins to close at bottom, bright Orange Brown color from a worn-plate impression, light blue cancel, Very Fine, with 2014 P.F. certificate
5c Orange Brown (1b). Two, each with full to clear margins, cleaned-plate impressions, blue cancels, Fine-Very Fine, with 2013 P.F. certificates
5c Red Orange (1c). Huge margins including traces of adjoining stamps at top and bottom, absolutely brilliant Red Orange color and worn-plate impression, cancelled by blue numeral "10" and "5" handstamps, fresh and soundEXTREMELY FINE. A SPECTACULAR EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN THE RARE RED ORANGE SHADE, CANCELLED BY BLUE "5" AND "10" NUMERALS. ONE OF THE FINEST KNOWN EXAMPLES.
According to Wade Saadi, the Red Orange shade was produced exclusively during the last printing, stamps from which were part of the Fifth Delivery (December 7, 1850).

5c Red Orange (1c). Horizontal pair, sheet margin at bottom, other sides large to touched at top left and into corner at top right, worn-plate impression, radiant color in the true Red Orange shade, which exactly matches the reference copy at The Philatelic Foundation (which also has the same Baltimore cancels), corner strike of blue Baltimore, Maryland circular datestamp and blurry central red cancel (probably numeral "5"), few tiny nicks in top margin and light horizontal crease in sheet marginFINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF ONLY SIX RECORDED PAIRS OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN THE RED ORANGE SHADE AND THE ONLY EXAMPLE WITH A SHEET MARGIN. A WONDERFUL CLASSIC RARITY.

5c Brown Orange (1d). Full to ample margins, bright shade and worn-plate impression, blue grid cancel, two tiny corner creases, Very Fine appearance, with 2010 P.F. certificate
5c Orange Brown, Brown Orange (1b, 1d). One of former, three of latter, large to ample margins, 1b and one 1d touching on one side, worn-plate impressions, two with blue cancels, one with black grid, certificates note small faults on three and one repaired, Fine-Very Fine appearance, each with 2010 P.F. certificate
5c and 10c 1847 Issue Balance (1-2, 2P1). Select group includes 10c large die proof cut to stamp size (2P1), fifteen 5c stamps and one 10c, better shades and colors including three Orange Brown (1b), some sub-shades, such as Deep Red Brown (two) and Pale Brown, one Type A double transfer, six with manuscript cancels, also a few blue cancels, one with scarce magenta cancel, margins range from huge sheet margins to in, most with small faults, Fine-Very Fine appearance, also includes a 24c 1869 Pictorial (120), No. 2P1 and eleven of the 5c with P.F. certificates, Scott value well over $6,800.00
