With 2018 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $6,000.00). Only two 5c 1847s grade higher (at 100J). This Superb 98 Jumbo grade is shared by only two others.

A comparable example of the Trenton Star on a 5c 1847 (also with small crease) realized $5,000 hammer in our 2012 Mirsky sale (that example is ex Caspary, Haas, Grunin, Garrett and Wall). This stamp realized $5,750 hammer in Christie's 1993 Ishikawa sale.

With 2007 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $3,000.00). This is the highest grade awarded to a 5c Orange Brown stamp in the P.S.E. Population Report.
5c Orange Brown (1b). Ample to full margins, bold green numeral "5" in frame cancel of Princeton N.J.VERY FINE. A CHOICE COMPLETE STRIKE OF THE RARE PRINCETON N.J. NUMERAL "5" GREEN CANCEL. PARTICULARLY DESIRABLE ON AN ORANGE BROWN STAMP.

5c Orange Brown (1b). Large margins, rich color, neat black grid cancel, Extremely Fine, scarce 5c 1847 with grid cancel struck in black, ex Dr. Hinrichs, with 1999 (as "Brown Orange") and 2016 P.F. certificates (VF-XF 85)
5c Orange Brown (1b). Horizontal pair, rich color, large margins to ample at top right corner, bold blue grid cancels, Very Fine, with 2015 P.F. certificate
5c Red Orange, Dot in "S" (1c var). From the bottom left corner of the pane, large to huge margins all around including part of bottom sheet margin, radiant color in the true Red Orange shade which is nicely complemented by blue grid cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB USED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN THE DISTINCTIVE AND DESIRABLE RED ORANGE SHADE. THIS STAMP IS GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E., WHICH IS THE HIGHEST AWARDED. THIS IS ALSO THE ONLY DOT IN "S" VARIETY OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN THE RED ORANGE COLOR WE HAVE BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE.
According to a series of articles by the late Calvet M. Hahn in the Collector's Club Philatelist, the Red Orange shade was printed some time during the fourth and last printing, which took place in December 1850. The Dot in "S" variety only occurs in the ninth vertical column of the left pane.
Ex "Natalee Grace". With 2007 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (both graded XF-Superb 95; SMQ $30,000.00). This is the highest grade awarded and only one other shares this grade.
5c Brown Orange (1d). Jumbo margins all around including large left sheet margin and portion of adjoining stamp at bottom, gorgeous Brown Orange color on blued paper, neat strike of blue grid cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A HUGE AND STUNNING USED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1847 ISSUE IN THE ELUSIVE BROWN ORANGE SHADE, GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY THE PHILATELIC FOUNDATION.
This Superb 98 Jumbo 5c 1847 in the Brown Orange shade is without equal in The Philatelic Foundation's grading records (the next highest is a single example graded XF 90). By way of comparison, the highest grade awarded by P.S.E. is XF-Superb 95 and only three have achieved that high mark. This stamp, with its warm color, neat blue grid cancel and huge sheet margin is a true condition rarity and destined to reside in an advanced classic collection.
