Enormous margins all around, intense shade, tiny scrape at lower right, tied by blue "Richmond Va." dateless circle on cover to New Market Va. with route instructions "Please forward by Mill Way Carrier", pencil "May 10" (1863) date, faint overall toning, Extremely Fine appearance, from the Chiles correspondence, this peculiar route endorsement appears on only a few covers addressed to New Market in this period, its relevance to contract mail routes was substantiated by the late Richard Krieger (Confederate Philatelist Nos. 243-244), this is a rare "TEN" use with the Mill Way Carrier designation, ex Murphy, with 1997 C.S.A. certificate, Scott Retail $1,500.00 as ordinary cover

This cover comes from the famous Dean correspondence, which is responsible for most of the Spartanburg Postmaster's Provisionals as well as several choice adversity uses.
