Amos Kendall, editor of an influential newspaper in Frankfort, Kentucky, was an ardent supporter of Andrew Jackson. Kendall served as Postmaster General under Jackson and also briefly under Van Buren. He was one of the most influential members of Jackson's "Kitchen Cabinet," a small unofficial group who set administration policy.
