Set of 10, on approximately 142 x 214mm cards with full die sinkage and gold trim at edges, also with album frontispiece from National Bank Note Co., some toned spotsVERY FINE APPEARANCE. A SCARCE SET OF LARGE DIE PROOFS FOR THE 1861-66 ISSUE FROM A SAMPLE OR PRESENTATION BOOK. PERFECT FOR EXHIBITION.
The 24c is listed but unpriced in Scott. Scott Retail does not include this rare proof.
5c Red Brown, First Design, Plate Essay on India (67-E9d; formerly 57P3). Bottom part imprint and plate no. 3 strip of four, clear margins other sides to just touching design at left, vivid color, couple typical India paper translucencies, Very Fine, Scott Retail as singles with no premium for the plate number and part imprint
5c Black, Large Die Trial Color Proof on India (67TC1ae). Die sunk on 64 x 71mm card with full die sinkage, albino die no. 442 and imprint at bottom, deep shade with clear bluish tint, we would call this Bluish Black though Scott lists only Black, few trivial toning specks, still Very Fine, a scarce large die trial color proof
12c Black, Large Die Proof on India (69P1). On 87 x 83mm card with full die sinkage, bright shade and impression, Very Fine and choice, ex Vogel
24c Violet, Plate Proof on India (70TC3). Brilliant color, detailed impression, fresh and Extremely Fine, this is the scarcest color of the 1861 Issue plate proofs and is usually missing from that set when offered

The Siegel firm auctioned the Lilly India and card proof sheets in September 1967. One set of panes remains complete in a private collection. The other panes were broken up, and this top block of 30 originates from those panes.
