Plate 12, Reliefs C/B, block of four, top stamps Type I, bottom stamps Type II, bottom right stamp Mint N.H., bright color, light natural gum bends not mentioned on accompanying certificateVERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL COMBINATION BLOCK OF FOUR OF TYPES I AND II OF THE ONE-CENT 1857 ISSUE.
With 2012 P.S.E. certificate for irregular block of eight. Scott Retail as combination block with no premium for the Mint N.H. Type II stamp

Position 63L12 double transfer with Philadelphia carrier cancel, also three Ty. V with N.Y. Station A, and D and Philadelphia carrier cancels, couple with small flaws, Fine appearing group
1c Blue, Ty. Ia (19). Bottom row F Relief position, characteristic dark color and clear impression, town cancel, margins to very slightly in at leftFINE. A HANDSOME SOUND USED EXAMPLE OF THE RARE 1857 ONE-CENT PERFORATED TYPE Ia.
Type Ia, imperforate and perforated, only comes from 18 positions in the bottom rows of the right and left panes of Plate 4. Due to difficulties in perforating sheets from Plate 4, many examples of Type Ia have perforations cutting into the design at bottom. This example clearly shows the type characteristics.

1c Blue, Ty. II-II/IIIa-IIIa (20-20/22-22). Block of four from Plate 12, Reliefs A/B, top stamps Type II, bottom stamps Type IIIa, bottom stamps with wide breaks at bottom and faint outer lines at top (almost qualifying as Type III), original gum, lightly hinged, radiant color, right stamps light vertical bendsFINE. A BEAUTIFUL AND SCARCE COMBINATION BLOCK OF FOUR OF TYPES II AND IIIa FROM PLATE 12.
According to the Neinken book, Plate 12 originally contained 99 Type I and 101 Type II stamps. On some positions erasures were made, and in some cases the outer lines wore away, causing some to become Type IIIa. Only one position is known to have worn at both top and bottom causing Type III (46L12).
With copy of 1978 P.F. certificate. Scott Catalogue does not list combination pairs from Plate 12. Scott Retail as pair of Type II and pair of Type IIIa.

1c Blue, Ty. III (21). Plate 4, unused (no gum), wide break at top and small break at bottom, bright color, couple blind perfs at lower right, light diagonal crease, Fine appearance, a scarce unused example of this type
1c Blue, Ty. III (21). Plate 4, choice margins and attractively centered, rich color with neat New York "U.S. Mail City Delivery" carrier datestamp, trivial corner crease top left, otherwise Very Fine and choice, with 2002 P.F. certificate
1c Blue, Ty. III (21). Plate 4, lightly struck and slightly oxidized red New York carrier datestamp, barely noticeable tear at top, otherwise Fine, with 1997 A.P.S. certificate that does not mention the tear and states the cancel is brown which it is not
1c Blue, Ty. IIIa (22). Plate 11, A Relief, bright shade, unusually wide margins which clearly show the design characteristics with complete line at bottom and wide break at top, light grid cancel, Very Fine and choice, a lovely Plate 11 stamp, with 1992 and 2006 P.F. certificates
1c Blue, Ty. IIIa (22). Plate 11, A Relief, fabulous margins and incredibly well-centered with perforations clear of design on all sides, lovely pastel color, neat New York circular datestamp, Extremely Fine
