3c Deep Violet (537a). Rich color, well-centered for this rare and notoriously challenging stamp and shade, Salem Ohio oval registry cancelEXTREMEY FINE. A RARE SOUND AND CENTERED USED EXAMPLE OF THE 3-CENT 1919 "VICTORY" ISSUE IN THE RARE DEEP RED VIOLET COLOR. THIS ISSUE IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO OBTAIN WITHOUT A PRECANCEL.
Our census of Scott 537a in used condition, available at our website at http://www.siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/537a/537a.pdf , records a total of 19 used singles and two used blocks of four. Of the singles, 11 are precancelled -- all at Salem Ohio. Of the eight singles without precancels, the example offered here has the widest margins. It should also be considered desirable with the Salem registry cancel.
