5c Carmine, Imperforate, Error (485). Mint N.H., deep shade, Jumbo margins all around incl. parts of all eight adjoining stampsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A MAGNIFICENT "FRAMED" MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT CARMINE IMPERFORATE ERROR.
During the course of production of the normal 2c plate No. 7942, three positions were noted to be defective. The plate was sent back to the siderographer, who burnished out the three positions and mistakenly re-entered them using a transfer roll for the 5c stamp. The error passed unnoticed and the sheets were issued to the public both Perf 10, Imperforate and Perf 11 (Scott 467, 485 and 505).The imperforate is by far the rarest of the three.
With 1991 P.F. certificate

Unlike many other issues, the horizontal coil is actually scarcer than the vertical coil. It was in production for only a short period of time before being replaced by the Type III, Scott 492.
This coil in joint line pair format is exceedingly rare in Mint N.H. condition. A review of our computerized records using Power Search revealed only three other Mint N.H. joint line pairs. The P.S.E. Population Report does not list any Mint N.H. line pair.
With 2004 P.F. certificate
2c Carmine, Ty. II, Coil (491). Joint line pair, lightly hinged, deep rich color, perfectly centered with wide marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB JOINT LINE PAIR OF THE 2-CENT ROTARY TYPE II COIL WHICH HAS BEEN GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 BY P.S.E.
Unlike many other issues, the horizontal coil is actually scarcer than the vertical coil. It was in production for only a short period of time before being replaced by the Type III, Scott 492.
With 1995 P.F. and 2008 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $21,800.00). This is the only line pair to achieve this grade to date. The next highest example is graded 90, and after that one 40(!).
2c Carmine, Ty. II, Coil (491). Mint N.H. pair, deep rich color, clear impression, exceptionally choice centering for this challenging issueEXTREMELY FINE FOR THIS RARE ROTARY COIL. A RARE AND CHOICE MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT ROTARY TYPE II.
