1c Green & Black, Pan-American, Center Inverted (294a). Original gum, lightly hinged, incredibly well-centered, deep dark colors
EXTREMELY FINE. A REMARKABLY FRESH AND BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-CENT PAN-AMERICAN INVERT, GRADED VF-XF 85 BY P.S.E.
According to Johl, the 1c Pan-American Inverts were found in at least four different post offices around the country soon after release of the issue in May 1901, including Bessemer Ala., Richmond Va., Utica N.Y. and Connecticut.
Ex Morton and "Adventurer". With 1999 P.F., 2007 and 2011 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, VF-XF 85). Only six 1c Pan-American inverts grade higher (all at 90) and four share this grade. Frankly, we do not understand how this stamp did not join the six with XF 90 grades.
1c Green & Black, Pan-American (294). Mint N.H., essentially perfect centering, rich color on bright white paper, Extremely Fine Gem, a lovely stamp, ex Morton, with 2008 and 2024 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98), only five grade higher
2c Carmine & Black, Pan-American (295). Mint N.H., bold rich color, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2019 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95)
2c Carmine & Black, Pan-American (295). Mint N.H., exceedingly well-centered, fresh colors, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2007 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95)

8c Brown Violet & Black, Pan-American (298). Mint N.H., rich colors and detailed impressions, outstanding centering with balanced margins, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2017 P.F. certificate (XF-Superb 95), SCV $220
10c Yellow Brown & Black, Pan-American (299). Mint N.H., fresh and bright colors, outstanding centering with Jumbo margins
EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT PAN-AMERICAN ISSUE, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 JUMBO BY P.S.E.
Advanced collectors of superb early U.S. stamps understand that the 1901 Pan-American Issue, while collectible in the highest grades, has narrow margins that very rarely measure in the Jumbo size. The 10c is a perfect example of this. Reviewing the numbers for Extremely Fine Mint N.H. in the P.S.E. Population Report bears this out. P.S.E. lists 49 examples graded 85 but only five at 85 Jumbo. 59 examples are graded 90, but only four are 90 Jumbo. Moving up to the 95 level offered here, there are 31 graded 95 and only this sole example graded 95 Jumbo.
With 2010 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo). Only three grade higher (two at 98 and one at 98J, which last realized $26,000 hammer in our Sale 1150). No others share this 95J grade.
