2c Lake (219D). Mint N.H., deep rich color in the true Lake shade, bright paper, wide and balanced marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A GORGEOUS MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 1890 2-CENT SMALL BANK NOTE ISSUE IN THE LAKE SHADE.
With 1985 and 2003 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $5,000.00). Only one has graded higher (at 98)
2c Carmine (220). Mint N.H., brilliant color on bright paper, choice centering with Jumbo margins, Extremely Fine Gem, a gorgeous stamp, with 2007 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $1,100.00)
2c Carmine, Cap on Left "2" (220a). Mint N.H., brilliant color on bright paper, perfectly centered with wide margins, sharp impression which clearly shows the varietyEXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT SMALL BANK NOTE ISSUE WITH CAP ON THE LEFT "2"
Ex "Scarsdale". With copy of 1990 P.F. certificate for block of six and with 2000 and 2007 P.F. certificates as single (XF-Superb 95). This is the highest grade awarded by the P.F., and P.S.E. has only graded one higher at 95J
4c Dark Brown (222). Mint N.H. with wide top plate no. selvage, deep rich color and proof-like impression, perfectly centered with wide marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 4-CENT 1890 ISSUE, WHICH IS GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE ON RECORD AND THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE IT.
With 2011 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $7,750.00). This is the highest grade awarded and the only example to achieve it.
5c Chocolate (223). Mint N.H., mathematically perfect centering with Jumbo margins, deep rich color on crisp paper, long and full perforationsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS MAGNIFICENT MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1890 ISSUE IS GRADED GEM 100 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE POSSIBLE ON THE GRADING CHART. TRULY A CONDITION RARITY.
With 1992 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (Gem 100 Jumbo; unpriced in SMQ above the grade of 100, SMQ $14,500.00 as 100). This is the highest grade possible on the grading chart and only one other shares this grade. For the entire 1890-93 Issue, only four stamps have this top grade -- two 1c and two 5c. This is the first time we have offered a 5c 1890 in this grade in our auctions.
6c Brown Red (224). Mint N.H., deep rich color and proof-like impression on bright paper, well-balanced marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 6-CENT 1890 ISSUE, GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E.
With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $4,900.00). Only one has graded higher (at 100) and three others share this grade.
8c Lilac (225). Mint N.H., perfectly centered with Jumbo margins, radiant color and detailed impressionEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS STUNNING MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 8-CENT 1890 ISSUE IS GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E., WHICH IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
