4c Deep Red Brown & Black, Pan-American (296). Mint N.H., Jumbo margins and essentially perfect centering, rich colors and proof-like impressions

EXTREMELY FINE GEM. A TRULY EXCEPTIONAL MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 4-CENT PAN-AMERICAN ISSUE, GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY THE P.F.

With 1992 and 2024 P.F. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo). Advanced collectors of graded stamps are well familiar with the usual tight margins of the Pan-American issue. While there are healthy populations of the issue at the grade of 95, including the 4c, finding an example in the grade of 98, especially with Jumbo margins is exceedingly difficult. This 98J is the highest grade awarded by the P.F. with none equal. The P.S.E. Population Report lists one at this grade (realized $7,500 hammer in our Sale 1209) and two higher, including the Gem 100 which realized $18,500 hammer in our Sale 1206 and the 100J which realized $28,000 hammer in our Sale 1199.
