"Ship Leonidas, Oahu April 9th 1829". Dateline on folded letter from Benjamin Lawton to Mr. Jacob Babbitt in Bristol R.I., red "New London Ct. Mar. 25" and matching "SHIP" handstamp, magenta manuscript "22" due rate, contents discusses how they have 1,350 barrels of whale oil on board, the recipient appears to be the ship's owner, some expert restoration, otherwise Very Fine early whaling letter, accompanied by second letter datelined at sea on Nov. 10, 1829 which notes "having such pure hard luck since I left the Sandwich Islands in April last", to same recipient and with similar markings but with "12" rate, also accompanied by third letter datelined "At the off shore ground November 15, 1829" but written by David Chase to same recipient noting some issues with the voyage, a Very Fine trio of whaling letters
Stampless Covers to and from India. Five, including 1860 from Salem Mass. to Zanzibar via Bombay, one datelined "Calcutta 20 Decr. 1805" to Portsmouth N.H., 1812 from Calcutta to New York used pre-blockade War of 1812, one from 1833 to Philadelphia, 1821 from Edmonstone Island to Boston, overall fresh and Very Fine group
Kanagawa, Japan, to Germany via Hong Kong, 1863. Cover with enclosure datelined "Kanagawa Jap. 4th Juni 1863", to Berlin, Germany, sender's directive "per Overland mail via Triest", with "Hong Kong JU 25 63" backstamp and red boxed "PAID" handstamp, various transits, blue crayon "6" crossed out and rerated to "9", some edgewear, otherwise Fine and very unusual use
Netherlands East Indies Mail. Choice group of 14 covers from and to the Netherlands East Indies, covers from include 1821 and 1822 from Batavia to Baltimore, 1822 from Samarang, 1838 from Albion, 1859 from Surabaya, several other 1850's from Batavia, also six 1840s covers to Batavia (one is 1850), some typical faults on the earlier covers, overall Fine-Very Fine and impressive group
Mail to and from the United States. Eleven, mostly on part of pages with detailed write-ups, including stampless from Corfu, Greece to Mass., overpaid use from Moravia to Ohio and forwarded, U.S. 10c Bank Note to France, registered cover from Spain to New York, two covers from Bavaria with different routings, few other better, overall Fine-Very Fine and interesting group for the specialist
Mail to and from Great Britain. 16, including U.S. 3c Bank Note marked "Insufficiently Paid" to London, Penny Red on blue illustrated advertising cover marked "Insufficiently Prepaid" with U.S. Notes datestamp, strip of three of Penny Red advertised and unclaimed, few other interesting, most with write-ups on part of pages, overall Fine-Very Fine and interesting group
