2c Pink, Ty. I (248). Brilliant color, wide margins and precise centering, face-free cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2007 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $275.00), only five used examples grade higher (highest is 98)
6c Dull Brown (256). Outstanding centering with balanced margins, rich color, light strike of violet cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a beautiful stamp with a colored cancel, with 2009 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $550.00), only three grade higher
10c Dark Green (258). Huge Jumbo balanced margins, precise centering, bright shade on crisp paper, essentially face-free cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2016 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $750.00), this is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by only three others -- we have offered two of them (one of them three separate times) and each time the stamp realized well in excess of SMQ value
15c Dark Blue (259). Well-centered with balanced margins, rich color, cork cancel leaves Henry Clay vignette fully visible, Extremely Fine, with 2009 P.S.E. certificate (XF 90; SMQ $375.00), only four grade higher
50c Orange (260). Outstanding centering and margins, brilliant color complemented by multiple strikes of magenta New York oval cancel used on Supplementary Mail, Extremely Fine Gem, a striking stamp and scarce with this cancel, with 2016 P.S.A.G. certificate (95 used), Scott value without premium for the cancel
$1.00 Black (261). Intense shade and proof-like impression on bright paper, gorgeous centering with wide and balanced margins, unobtrusive cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, a beautiful stamp, ex Hall, with 2004 P.F. certificate
$1.00 Black, Ty. II (261A). Well-centered with attractive margins, intense shade, very lightly cancelled (appears unused at a glance), Very Fine and choice, with 2015 P.F. certificate (VF-XF 85)
$2.00 Bright Blue (262). Deep rich color, choice centering, unobtrusive double oval cancelEXTREMELY FINE USED EXAMPLE OF THE $2.00 1894 UNWATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE.
The 1894 unwatermarked issue was the first U.S. stamp issue to be printed by the Bureau of Engraving & Printing, after the contract with American Bank Note Co. expired.

2c Carmine, Ty. I (265). Wide margins and almost mathematically precise centering, bright color, unobtrusive oval grid cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2018 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $850.00), only three used examples grade higher and one other shares this grade
5c Chocolate (270). Outstanding centering and margins, rich color, Ohio double oval cancel struck so that Grant's face is unobscured, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2007 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $250.00)
6c Dull Brown (271). Perfectly centered with Jumbo margins, deep rich color on bright paper, small portion of cancel at right leaves the design fully visible, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2019 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $1,500.00), this is the highest grade awarded to this issue in any condition and it is shared by only two others (both used)
6c Dull Brown, USIR Watermark (271a). Showing full and clear "R" of watermark, rich color, bold cork cancel, horizontal crease, Extremely Fine appearance, a rare paper variety, Scott value $8,500.00
8c Violet Brown (272). Detailed impression on bright paper, light strike of purple cancel, gorgeous centering, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2009 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $525.00), only four grade higher
15c Indigo (274). Wonderful depth of color, outstanding centering with wide margins, bold but mostly face-free cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, with 2018 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $1,050.00), only two grade higher (at 98J) and only four others share this grade
$1.00 Black, Ty. I (276). Intense shade and impression on bright paper, lightly struck registry oval cancel, choice centering with well-balanced margins, Extremely Fine, with 2014 P.F. certificate (XF-Superb 95)
$1.00 Black, Ty. II (276A). Crisp shade, wide margins, unobtrusive cancel, Extremely Fine Gem, ex Hall, with 2004 P.F. and 2015 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95; SMQ $1,400.00), only one stamp grades higher (at 98)
$2.00 Bright Blue (277). Choice centering with balanced margins, bright color, face-free duplex cancel, Extremely Fine, with 1992 and 2007 P.F. certificates (XF 90)
$5.00 Dark Green (278). Jumbo margins and outstanding centering, deep rich color and detailed impression, light strike of registry oval cancelEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A SUPERB JUMBO USED EXAMPLE OF THE 1895 $5.00 WATERMARKED BUREAU ISSUE.
The $5.00 was usually heavily cancelled or used on heavy parcels which were not treated kindly. The example offered here, with Jumbo margins, choice centering and rich color, is a true rarity.
With 2012 P.F. and 2013 P.S.E. certificates (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $5,500.00). This is the only used Scott 278 in the P.S.E. Population Report with a Jumbo grade. There are four that grade higher (at 98), but none of those have the margin size of this example.
