AN ATTRACTIVE EXAMPLE OF THE RARE ONE-THIRD BARREL 1909 ISSUE. ONLY TWO ARE RECORDED IN THE PRIESTER CENSUS.

A RARE EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-HOGSHEAD 1909 ISSUE. ONLY FOUR ARE RECORDED IN THE PRIESTER CENSUS.
We offered one of the other four known in our Tolman sale. That other copy was extensively repaired with portions of the central design painted in. The example offered here is a very presentable copy of this rarity.

1911, $10.00 Black on Blue, 10bbl., 25bbl., Center Cutouts (REA90-REA91; Priester 102-103). Each shows full denomination and most of central design, perforated cancels, Very Fine and scarce, the full stamps are not known to exist, according the the Priester book these were used to pay tax on beer in vats drawn off for bottling, the center portion was punched out by the revenue collector and the brewer received the center portion as a receipt, the government retained the rest of the stamp and presumably destroyed them, undercatalogued in Scott as only eight of the 10bbl. and 15 of the 25bbl. are recorded in the Priester census, ex "Scarsdale", latter with 2008 P.F. certificate
