1c Blue, Re-Issue (102). Original gum, small h.r., wide margins, fresh color, sharp impression on bright paper, a few barely nibbed perf tips, still Extremely Fine
2c Black, Re-Issue (103). Original gum, intense shade and impression on bright paper, well-balanced marginsEXTREMELY FINE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE.
With 1991 and 2003 P.F. and 2011 P.S.E. certificates (OGh, VF-XF 85; SMQ $5,500.00). Only 979 sold.
2c Black, Re-Issue (103). Mount glazed redistributed original gum or regummed (hard to determine), perfect centering and extra wide margins, light overall gum toning, otherwise Extremely Fine, whether original or not, the gum on this stamp should be boiled off, which might significantly improve the appearance of this beautiful stamp, only 979 sold, Scott Retail as no gum
3c Brown Red, Re-Issue (104). Part original gum with some disturbance from hinge removal, rich color and attractively centered, nibbed perf at bottom, otherwise Very Fine, only 465 sold
5c Brown, Re-Issue (105). Perfectly centered with wide and balanced margins, deep rich color and proof-like impression on bright paper, long and full perforations all around, face-free duplex cancel, 1984 P.F. certificate no. 131962 as sound, 2003 P.F. certificate no. 395534 notes small filled thin spot, 2004 P.F. certificate no. 410617 notes small repaired tear at top left, (none of the three accompany), 2007 P.F. and P.S.E. certificates describe this as soundEXTREMELY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 5-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE. ONLY 37 USED EXAMPLES ARE RECORDED IN OUR CENSUS.
The 5c Re-Issue was printed from a new plate of 100 subjects, compared to the original plate of 200 in two panes. The Re-Issue plate can be identified by a notch at bottom. 10,000 stamps were printed (100 impressions). Only 672 of the 5c were sold; the remaining 9,328 were destroyed on July 16, 1884.
Our census of Scott 105 used, available at our website at http://siegelauctions.com/dynamic/census/105/105.pdf , records only 37 examples.
