Full margins to just in at upper right, worn-plate impression, small corner creases at bottom left, tied by red grid with matching "Boston 5cts. 5 Jun." integral-rate circular datestamp with "PAID" handstamp on folded letter datelined "Liverpool 24 May 1851 pr. Asia" to New York City, red "FORWARDED BY/WM BAILEY LANG/COMMISSION MERCHANT/BOSTON" four-line backstamp, Very Fine, scarce late use originating in Liverpool, England, carried outside of the mails to Boston, the Cunarder Asia departed Liverpool May 24, 1851, and arrived in New York on June 4, this was likely in a pouch delivered to Boston the following day where the commission merchant affixed the stamp and placed it into the mails, a similar cover from the same month with the forwarder's handstamp in blue (on the flap) was offered in our 2020 sale of the Gross collection, ex Jack Dick, with 2002 P.F. certificate
