Horizontal pair, neat squiggle cancels with manuscript "Millboro Springs Va. 16th Aug" (1862) postmark on buff cover to Lexington Va., turned and re-mailed to San Marino Va. with pair of 5c Blue, Local (7), tied by light strike of "Lexington Va. Feb. 17" (1863) circular datestamp, fresh and Very Fine, an unusually choice condition turned use with pairs of Davis Lithograph and Typograph stamps

Nov. 23" circular datestamp on cover to Chickamauga Station Ga., turned use with original inside use franked with U.S. 3c Dull Red, Ty. III (26), also sent from Prattville and addressed to Poughkeepsie N.Y., 3c stamp with faulty corner, Fine and unusual turned use sent twice from the same town (after the cover found its way back to Prattville)

Huge margins all around, tied by partly struck "Macon Ga." double-circle datestamp on U.S. House of Representatives, Washington D.C. brown overall lithographed cover with illustration of the Capitol, addressed to Athens Ga. and forwarded back to Macon with manuscript "Frwd 10", stamp is placed over the Capitol building no doubt to make a political statement, missing backflap, still Extremely Fine and very unusual cover, with 1998 C.S.A. certificate

10c Deep Blue, Die B (12). Large margins to just clear, deep rich color from a Keatinge & Ball printing, tied by "Big Lick Va. Mar. 8" (1865) circular datestamp on U.S. 10c Green on Buff Nesbitt entire (U16) to Blacks and Whites Va., Very Fine, a very rare use of a Confederate stamp on an obsolete 10c U.S. entire, we have encountered only two examples of the 10c Nesbitt entire used in this way -- the other example has a No. 11 that is cut to shape and realized $8,500 hammer in our 2007 sale of the Boshwit collection

Jan. 14" circular datestamp on adversity cover made from a rate chart, addressed to Thomasville N.C., this was the second turned use of the cover, the inside is franked with a 10c Blue, Die B (12) stamp tied by Richmond Va. circular datestamp and addressed to Greensboro, some ink erosion in address and flap partly separated, Fine and desirable double-adversity combination, with 1997 C.S.A. certificate
