3c Dull Red, Ty. II (11A). Pen-canceled, bold strike of "Orange & Alexa. R.R. Jan. 10" (1854) route agent's circular datestamp on folded letter letter datelined at Culpeper C.H. Va., addressed to Stanardsville Va., stamp with tiny cut at bottom, cover with minor edge tears, Very Fine strike, the only recorded example of the Orange & Alexandria Railroad circular datestamp, unlisted in Remele (though he notes one example of "Alexa & Orange", offered in the following lot), this cover realized $300 in Siegel Sale 271 in 1964

Railroad Covers. 16 railroad covers mostly connected to Lynchburg Va. -- to, from or en route, several with No. 11A, also Nos. 24, 26, 65 and a couple entires and later issues, highlights include "Alexandria & Orange R.R." circular datestamp, three embossed cameo corner card covers for Virginia & Tennessee Railroad (two in green, one in red), "Virga & Tenn R.R." circular datestamp, two "Southside R.R." circular datestamps, Virginia & Tennessee Railroad Company corner card, "Louisa R. Road Va" circular datestamp, others, a few minor flaws, overall Fine, a nice group

Railroad Cover Collection. Over 65 covers, wide range of uses from stampless period thru about 1900, with both railroad cancels and advertising corner card covers including a 1860s Pennsylvania Central "New State of Lake Superior" all-over design on back of cover, condition a bit mixed but much is Fine or better
