1c-90c 1861-66 Issue, Atlanta Trial Color Proofs on Card (102TC4-111TC4). Complete set of 50 in all five colors, all with ample to large margins, brilliant colorsVERY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL AND RARE COMPLETE SET OF ATLANTA TRIAL COLOR PROOFS FOR THE 1861-66 ISSUE DESIGNS. THIS IS ONLY THE THIRD COMPLETE SET OF ALL 50 PROOFS WE HAVE OFFERED IN DECADES.
The Atlanta trial color plate proofs on card were prepared for display at the 1881 International Cotton Exposition in Atlanta. Only one sheet of 100 in each color was made available after 1881. Very few remain as intact sets.
1c Blue, Re-Issue (102). Original gum, lightly hinged, bright color and paper, wide margins and beautifully centered, Extremely Fine, with 2000 P.F. certificate
1c Blue, Re-Issue (102). Block of four, original gum, radiant color, detailed impression, top right stamp small repair at bottom where there was a pulled perf (as shown in our 1968 Rarities sale)VERY FINE APPEARANCE. A RARE AND DESIRABLE BLOCK OF FOUR OF THE ONE-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE.
The Scott Retail value of $60,000.00 is based on an allocation of price from the sale of a nearly complete set of blocks in our Whitman sale (Sale 968) and is not supported by other sale results. We believe our estimate more closely reflects market value.
2c Black, Re-Issue (103). Block of four, original gum, lightly hinged, intense shade and proof-like impression, single short perf at lower right, faint corner crease at upper right and a few rejoined perfs at right FINE-VERY FINE APPEARANCE. ONE OF TWO RECORDED BLOCKS OF THE 2-CENT "BLACK JACK" RE-ISSUE
The 2c Re-Issue was printed from a new plate of 100 subjects, compared to the original plate of 200 in two panes. 10,000 stamps were printed (100 impressions). Only 979 of the 2c were sold; the remaining 9,021 were destroyed on July 16, 1884. The 2c plate can be easily identified by a spot on the cheek.
The other recorded block is part of the famous Caspary set of 1861 Re-Issue blocks and is, for all practical purposes, unavailable to collectors as an individual block.

2c Black, Re-Issue (103). Large part original gum, crisp impression, wide and balanced marginsEXTREMELY FINE EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT "BLACK JACK" RE-ISSUE.
Only 979 sold. With 1981 P.F. certificate which states "part o.g.". Scott Retail as original gum
3c Brown Red, Re-Issue (104). Original gum, lightly hinged, rich color on bright paperEXTREMELY FINE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 3-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE.
The 3c Re-Issue was printed from the original plate, which contained 200 subjects in two panes. 10,000 were printed (50 impressions). Only 465 of the 3c were sold; the remaining 9,535 were destroyed on July 16, 1884.
With 2001 P.F. certificate
5c Brown, Re-Issue (105). Unused (regummed), attractive shade, expert repair at top right, otherwise Very Fine looking and affordable example of this issue
12c Black, Re-Issue (107). Original gum, characteristic crackly gum covers entire back but inexplicably described on accompanying certificate as "part o.g.", intense shade and detailed impression, wide margins and beautifully centeredVERY FINE AND CHOICE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE.
Only 389 sold. With 1978 P.F. certificate as "part o.g."
15c Black, Re-Issue (108). Original gum, intense shade and impression, corner crease at top right, partly reperfed at top, Very Fine appearance, only 397 sold
24c Deep Violet, Re-Issue (109). Original gum, hinge mark, deep rich color and proof-like impression, superb centering and well-balanced marginsEXTREMELY FINE. A REMARKABLY CHOICE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 24-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE.
The 24c Re-Issue was printed from the original plate of 200 subjects. A total of 10,000 was printed (50 impressions). Only 346 of the 24c were sold; the remaining 9,654 were destroyed on July 16, 1884.

30c Brownish Orange, Re-Issue (110). Original gum, rich color, single pulled perf at lower leftVERY FINE CENTERING. A FRESH AND WELL-CENTERED ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE.
Only 346 sold.
90c Blue, Re-Issue (111). Original gum, deep rich color, well-centered, tiny thin speck, short perf at rightVERY FINE CENTERING. AN ATTRACTIVE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 90-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE.
