Alexander's Matches, 1c Blue, Silk Paper (RO3b). Rich color, attractive centering, couple small thin spots and small repair at bottom left, Fine appearance, the Aldrich census records only 13 examples of this Match stamp rarity, all but one have faults and many are repaired, this is only the fourth example we have offered since keeping computerized records
American Match Co., 3c Green, Old Paper (RO13a). Rich color and detailed impression, centered to top rightFINE. AN EXTREMELY RARE SOUND EXAMPLE OF THE AMERICAN MATCH CO. PRIVATE DIE STAMP. ONLY TWELVE EXAMPLES ARE RECORDED IN THE ALDRICH CENSUS AND AT LEAST NINE ARE FAULTY TO SOME DEGREE.
Of the twelve examples recorded in the Aldrich book, only three are potentially sound. This is only the fourth we have offered in any condition since keeping computerized records
Barber Match Co., 1c Blue, Rouletted, USIR Watermark (RO18d). Rich color, natural printing crease, tear at right into portrait oval, Fine appearance and one of the rarest Match issues, there are only nine examples recorded in the Aldrich census
Bauer & Beudel, 1c Ultramarine, Old Paper (RO22u). Bright color, well-centered, tiny tear at upper left, Very Fine appearance
Wm. Bond & Co., 4c Green, Silk and Pink Papers (RO33b, RO33c). First original gum, h.r., Fine and scarce with original gum, second attractive margins and centering, small thin spot, Very Fine appearance
Brown & Durling, 1c Black (RO43a). Deep shade, small shallow thin spot at top, Fine appearance, of the 20 examples recorded in the Aldrich book he notes that only five are sound
L. W. Buck & Co., 1c Black, Experimental Silk Paper (RO45e). Strong impression, faint crease, otherwise a Fine example of this scarce stamp, only 20 are recorded in the Aldrich book
Chicago Match Co., 3c Black (RO60a). Deep shade, small thins, Fine appearance, scarce issue with only 42 recorded in Aldrich, who notes nearly all have perfs in or touching
James L. Clark, 1c Green, Rouletted, USIR Watermark (RO63d). Roulettes on three sides, fresh color, thin and closed tear at top, Fine appearance, only 30 are recorded in the Aldrich book, which notes some of this number would be turned down if re-examined
W. D. Curtis Matches, 1c Green, Experimental Silk Paper (RO68e). Rich color, Fine and scarce Experimental Silk paper example of of this beautiful Match stamp design
Wm. Gates & Sons, 1c Black, Rouletted, USIR Watermark (RO93d). Creased but otherwise sound, with roulettes on all four sides, Fine and rare -- only 14 recorded in census (8 have faults) and this is only the third we have offered since keeping computerized records
New York Match Co., 5c Blue, Silk Paper (RO139b). Deep color, two small thins and a minor wrinkle, Fine appearance, only 22 are recorded in Aldrich book and of these at least 15 have faults, all of the four copies in the Joyce collection were faulty
Pierce Match Co., 1c Green (RO145a). Deep color, faults and neatly repaired at bottom, Fine appearance, the striking volcano design of this stamp makes it one of the most popular and unusual Private Die issues, it is all but impossible to find sound, with at least 16 of the 21 recorded in Aldrich faulty
V. R. Powell, 1c Black on Buff, Cut to Shape (RO150a). Usual faults incl. a repaired corner at top left, Fine appearance, only 21 of the cut to shape buff wrappers are recorded in Aldrich census
V. R. Powell, 1c Black, White Wrapper, Cut to Shape (RO151a). Large margins all around, clear impression on fresh paper, a few stains on reverse just show thruVERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN ATTRACTIVE EXAMPLE OF THE RARE V. R. POWELL ONE-CENT ON WHITE WRAPPER.
The Aldrich census records only 16 of the White Wrapper variety, the vast majority in far inferior condition to this example.
E. K. Smith, 1c Blue, Rouletted, USIR Watermark (RO169d). Roulettes all around, fresh color, small thin, light horizontal crease and a small soiled spot on the headFINE APPEARANCE. ONLY TEN ARE RECORDED IN THE ALDRICH CENSUS.
Only one sound copy of this stamp is recorded (ex Tolman and Scarsdale example).
Wise & Co., 1c Black (RO183a). Strong impression, small perf faults and minor thin, Fine appearance, only 23 are recorded in Aldrich census
Zisemann, Griesheim & Co., 1c Green, Old Paper (RO185a). Faults incl. thin and nick at top, vertical line of soiling or perhaps a cancel, Fine appearance, the Aldrich book records only 19 examples of this rarity and of these no more than six are sound
T. Kensett & Co., 1c Green, Old Paper (RP1a). Deep color, typical faults incl. some staining, otherwise Fine, a very scarce example of the only Private Die Canned Fruit stamp, 27 recorded in the Aldrich census and virtually all examples are faulty to some degree, many profoundly so, with a number showing rust stains from the fruit cans
D. S. Barnes, 4c Vermilion, Old Paper (RS17a). Well-centered, deep color, tiny thins and some light creasing, Very Fine appearance, 24 recorded in Aldrich, most of which are faulty

The Aldrich census records a total of eleven examples. We have sold only two others since keeping computerized records.

Only 15 are recorded in the Aldrich census. We have yet to see a sound copy.
Merchant's Gargling Oil, 2c Green, Pink Paper (RS179c). Wide margins to close at top, tiny surface scuff above the horse's neck, Fine appearance and decent condition for this rare stamp, most are faulty, only 20 are recorded in the Aldrich census and we have offered only three others since keeping computerized records, with 2013 P.F. certificate
Merchant's Gargling Oil, 2c Green, Experimental Silk Paper (RS179e). Fresh color, s.e. at left and scissor-cut perfs at bottom, trivial thin spot, Fine appearance, an extremely rare stamp with only 8 copies recorded in the Aldrich book
Mishler Herb Bitters Co., 4c Black, Watermarked (RS181d). Well-centered with wide margins, Very Fine and choice, ex Scarsdale
Morehead's Neurodyne, 4c Black (RS186a). Attractive shade, a couple small thins and two closed tears, Very Fine appearance, rare with only 17 recorded in Aldrich book
Dr. M. Perl & Co., 6c Black (RS188a). Tight margins but outer framelines mostly intact on three sides, faults as always on this fragile stamp, otherwise Fine, scarce, only 23 are recorded in the Aldrich census
Seabury & Johnson, 1c Lake, Perforated (RS218d). With usual penstroke crossing out "Porous" at right, small perf faults, Fine appearance, the Boston Revenue Book reports that only one sheet was issued and just 17 are recorded in the Aldrich census
William Swaim, 8c Orange, Die Cut, Old Paper (RS235a). Full to large margins all around, strong color, small faults incl. some creases and a few tears, small nick in the left margin, Very Fine appearance, only 17 recorded in the Aldrich book, all known examples have faults to some degree
U.S. Proprietary Medicine Co., 6c Black, Old Paper (RS244a). Crisp impression, small faults incl. a sealed tear at top, Fine appearance, only 20 examples are recorded in the Aldrich book

John T. Milliken & Co., St. Louis, -1/8c Black (RS365). Large margins all around, violet handstamp cancel, small scuff in the top margin, otherwise a Very Fine example of this very scarce and undervalued stamp
X. Bazin, 2c Blue, Die Cut (RT1a). Large margins, rich color, tiny crease at top, otherwise Very Fine, only 29 examples are recorded in Aldrich census, which notes that this was never issued
George W. Laird, 3c Black, Die Cut, Old Paper (RT15a). Light violet ms. cancel, several faults but intact with full margins around, Very Fine appearance, only 10 recorded in the Aldrich census
Private Die Proprietary Medicine and Perfume Stamp Balance. Small balance of three stamps, incl. No. RS244a, faulty and repaired, Fine appearance, only 20 examples recorded, also No. RS265d, large margins, horizontal crease at bottom and tiny thin, otherwise Extremely Fine, finally what appears to be No. RT15a, thin and bottom trimmed, P.F. certificate declines to opine on whether or not it is die cut, so counted as No. RT14a
