This stamp was probably used with 6c additional postage on a 7c Direct Mail rate cover to Germany. One can only dream of what the full cover looked like, but this complete Running Chicken is a great rarity and highly exhibitable.

As an indication of rarity, we have only sold five other examples of the 90c 1869 with blue cancels in the past 14 years. Of these, two were cancelled in transit by blue French cancels and not at the point of origin of use.
