3c Ultramarine (114). Cancelled by perfect strike of blue negative Masonic Square and Compass fancy cancel of Painted Post N.Y. (Skinner-Eno FR-M3b 54) which seems to float above the stamp, Extremely Fine strike of this rare fancy cancel, with 1996 P.F. certificate
3c Ultramarine (114). Tied by perfect strike of blue negative Masonic Square and Compass fancy cancel (Skinner-Eno FR-M3b 54), matching "Painted Post N.Y. Sep. 2" circular datestamp on cover to New York City, Extremely Fine strike of this fancy cancel on a pretty cover, with 1999 P.F. certificate
1c Buff (112). Cancelled by ten short penstrokes we call the Falling Rain cancel, straight edge at left, bright color, Very Fine and attractive, with 1988 P.F. certificate
2c Brown (113). Radiant color, bold strike of Stovepipe fancy cancel of Leominster Mass. (Skinner-Eno GE-C 7), the cancel attractively frames Franklin's portrait, Very Fine and choice, a stamp with great eye appeal, with 1996 P.F. certificate
1c Buff (112). Choice centering, bright color contrasted by blue Stovepipe fancy cancel of Leominster Mass. (Skinner-Eno GE-C 7), Extremely Fine stamp and cancellation, with 2001 P.F. certificate
3c Ultramarine (114). Intact perfs at left and showing part of adjoining stamp at right, tied by Stovepipe fancy cancel (Skinner-Eno GE-C 7), matching "Leominster Ms. Apr. 18" on cover to Wendell Depot Mass., Extremely Fine strike on an attractive cover, with 1996 P.F. certificate
3c Ultramarine (114). Bright color, choice centering, cancelled by perfect strike of "Four Suits" fancy cancel (Skinner-Eno PH-H 73), small thin spot at lower right is inconsequential, Extremely Fine strike, this is probably the finest strike of this unusual fancy cancel, the Skinner-Eno book attributes this to Galva Ill. but they had never seen one on cover, based on the following lot we believe this cancel was used in Adrian Mich., ex Hale and Cole, with 2019 P.F. certificate
6c Ultramarine (115). Deep rich color, tied by "Four Suits" fancy cancel (Skinner-Eno PH-H 73), "Adrian Mich. Apr. 11" (1870) circular datestamp on cover to Hon. J. B. Chaffee in London, England, indistinct New York datestamp, London Paid datestamp, stamp with fault at top left well away from cancel (likely corner replaced), a Very Fine strike of this rare cancel, the dimensions of this cancel exactly match those in lots 203 and 205, we also compared it to our scan of one we offered in the Laehder collection (Sale 1013, lot 181), the Skinner-Eno book attributes this cancel to Galva Ill. but they had never seen one on cover, the cover offered here confirms this cancel originated in Adrian—the recipient, Jerome B. Chaffee, lived in Adrian until the 1840s and eventually ended up on Colorado where he founded the First National Bank of Denver, he served as U.S. senator and Chaffee County is named after him—1990 P.F. certificate (which erroneously states cancel enhanced) no longer accompanies
10c Yellow (116). Vibrant color, cancelled by bold strike of "Four Suits" fancy cancel (Skinner-Eno PH-H 73), Extremely Fine strike, this is the only example of this cancel we have encountered on the 10c stamp, the Skinner-Eno book attributes this to Galva Ill. but they had never seen one on cover, based on the previous lot we believe this cancel was used in Adrian Mich., ex du Pont (Sale 637) where illustrated on the front cover, with 2010 P.F. certificate
10c Yellow (116). Vivid color beautifully complemented by blue "Golf Ball" fancy cancel of Savannah Ga. (unlisted in Skinner-Eno), part of matching circular datestamp at left, Extremely Fine strike on a stamp with wide margins, the town of origin is confirmed by a 10c on piece illustrated in May 2014 Chronicle and a 12c on cover in our Millard Mack sale (Sale 876, lot 54), the example offered here is the most detailed strike we have encountered, with 2011 P.F. certificate
1c Buff (112). Horizontal pair, each stamp with gorgeous centering and wide balanced margins, bright color, each with neat strike of Circle of Hearts fancy cancel (unlisted in Skinner-Eno)

1c Buff (112). Bright color, clear strike of tiny 8-Petal Rosette cancel and also with trace of red cancel at lower left, few small faults, Extremely Fine strike of this attractive cancel, with 2008 P.F. certificate
10c Yellow (116). Vivid color, cancelled by perfect strike of Heart fancy cancel (difficult to identify in Skinner-Eno), small corner crease at bottom right and tiny tear at top, Extremely Fine strike, with 2005 P.F. certificate
15c Brown & Blue, Ty. I (118). Bright colors, bold strike of Rosette fancy cancel at left leaves the type characteristic clearly visible, Very Fine and choice, a stamp with great eye appeal, the 15c Type I is rare with anything resembling a fancy cancel, with 2002 P.F. certificate
24c Green & Violet (120). Deep rich colors, wide margins, bold strike of beautiful Rosette fancy cancel
EXTREMELY FINE. A BEAUTIFUL EXAMPLE OF THE 24-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE WITH A PERFECT STRIKE OF A ROSETTE CANCEL.

90c Carmine & Black (122). Perfectly centered, bold socked-on-the-nose strike of Rosette fancy cancel, tiny perf flaw at upper left not noted on certificates
EXTREMELY FINE APPEARING EXAMPLE OF THE 90-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE, WITH A PERFECT STRIKE OF A ROSETTE CANCEL. THE 90-CENT IS DIFFICULT TO FIND WITH ANY ELABORATE CANCEL.
Used 90c stamps are typically heavily cancelled, because the high denomination was cause for postal clerks to thoroughly obliterate any chance for re-use. Many are indistinct. The example offered here, with better centering than normally found and with a clear strike of a Rosette fancy cancel, is rare.
