Sale 1291, Lot 152, 1847 Issue from Florida5c Red Brown (1). Intense shade and cleaned-plate impression, red grid cancel with matching "Tampa Flor. Apr. 2" (1850) circular datestamp on folded letter datelined "Fort Meade Florida March 30th, 1850", addressed to Tallahassee Fla., stamp with small defect in top right corner, Very Fine appearance, an extremely rare use of the 1847 Issue from Tampa, the USPCS Census lists only four covers from Tampa (two 5c, two 10c), each from the Beard correspondence, illustrated in Florida Postal History Journal (July 2005), ex Dr. Briggs

Dec. 8" circular datestamp on 1849 folded cover to St. Augustine, faint vertical file fold well away from stamp and markings, stamp with light toning at bottom, Fine, rare intra-state use, this is also the only recorded use of any 1847 stamp from Madison, ex Curtis, with 2003 P.F. certificate

Feb. 21" circular datestamp on 1848 folded cover to New York, light horizontal file fold well clear of stamp, stamp has an additional lightened manuscript cancel

VERY FINE APPEARANCE. AN EXTREMELY RARE EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1847 ISSUE ON COVER WITH A GREEN CANCELLATION.

Tallahassee was one of the few post offices in the 1847 Issue era to use true green ink for its postmark and cancellation.
