2c Carmine (301). Mint N.H., intense color on bright paper, perfectly centered with Jumbo margins, long and full perforationsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT 1902 ISSUE GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED AND THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS GRADE.
Ex "Elite", "Westchester" and Merlin. With 2004 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $2,950.00). Only one grades higher (at 100, realized $6,500 hammer in our 2016 "Hanover" sale) and one other shares this desirable grade (we haven't offered the other).
5c Blue (304). Mint N.H. with wide left plate no. 1538 selvage with string of plate printers' initials, intense shade and impression, perfectly centered with Jumbo marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS IS WITHOUT QUESTION ONE OF THE FINEST EXAMPLES OF THE 5-CENT 1903 ISSUE IN EXISTENCE. THIS MARVELOUS STAMP IS GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E., AND IT IS THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS GRADE.
The 5c stamp was used to pay the U.P.U. rate to foreign destinations and so a large quantity was printed. Despite its large printing of just over 550 million (including the rare coils and imperfs), it is difficult to obtain in such superb condition. Only seven have graded higher than 95 (three each at 95J and 98), and this is the only example we have offered in one of our auctions graded higher than 95J.
Ex "Hanover". With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $4,250.00 is too low based on its realization of $7,500 hammer in the "Hanover" sale). This is the highest grade awarded and the only to achieve it.
6c Claret (305). Mint N.H., unusually deep shade and detailed impression, beautiful centering with Jumbo marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A GORGEOUS MINT NEVER-HINGED EXAMPLE OF THE 6-CENT 1902 ISSUE, GRADED XF-SUPERB 95 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- THIS IS THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED.
Ex "Scarsdale", "Westchester" and Merlin. With 2008 P.S.E. certificate (XF-Superb 95 Jumbo; SMQ $1,550.00). This is the highest grade awarded and only one other has achieved this grade. SMQ value seems too low to us -- a 95 catalogues $1,150.00 despite much higher population numbers
10c Pale Red Brown (307). Mint N.H., precise centering with spectacular Jumbo margins, deep rich color on post-office fresh paperEXTREMELY FINE GEM. A STUNNING JUMBO MARGIN EXAMPLE OF THE 10-CENT 1902 ISSUE, GRADED SUPERB 98 JUMBO BY P.S.E. -- THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED AND THE ONLY EXAMPLE TO ACHIEVE THIS GRADE.
Ex "Westchester" and Merlin. With 1993 P.F. and 2007 P.S.E. certificates (Superb 98 Jumbo; SMQ $9,000.00). This stands alone as the highest graded Scott 307 in the P.S.E. Population Report. The next highest grade is a single example graded 95 Jumbo.
