15c Brown & Blue, Ty. I (118). Unused (no gum), uncharacteristically well-centered, wide margins, bright colors, slightly short perf at bottom, otherwise Extremely Fine, with 2011 Weiss certificate (85)
15c Brown & Blue, Ty. I (118). Wide margins, bright colors, light cork and manuscript cancels, also with blue French entry datestamp, Very Fine and choice, especially desirable with the prominent French cancel, ex Eubanks, with 1998 P.F. certificate, Scott Retail with no premium for the French cancel
15c, 30c 1869 Pictorial, Balance (118, 121). Three stamps with an unusual characteristic, first No. 118 with vignette shifted strongly to bottom, bold strike of "New Orleans La. Apr. 26" (1869) circular datestamp, also with red transit cancel at bottom right, Fine, second No. 118 with target cancel and double perforations at bottom, small thin spot in grill, Very Fine appearance, an unusual variety, finally No. 121 with Double Grill, One Split, centered to top right, clear second grill which is split vertically, bold cork cancel, pulled perf at bottom, tiny tear at top left, otherwise Fine, a very rare variety, this is the only one we have offered since keeping computerized records, ex Sheriff and Wagshal, with 1986 and 2010 P.F. certificates, Scott Retail with the two 15c as normal and the 30c as Double Grill

Deep rich colors and detailed impressions, three wide margins, neat strike of New York circle of eight wedges cancel, single nibbed perforation at lower left which is very minor and noted as "slightly short" on certificateVERY FINE. A RARE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1869 PICTORIAL ISSUE INVERT WITH WONDERFULLY RICH COLORS. OFFERED TO THE MARKET FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1941.
Our census of 30c 1869 Inverts, available at https://siegelauctions.com/census/us/scott/121b , contains a total of 47 stamps, including 7 unused and 40 used (one in the Miller Collection at The New York Public Library and one used in the Tapling Collection at the British Library). Perhaps ten used examples are confirmed as sound. Several have significant faults. The example offered here, with just a single slightly short perf, is essentially sound.
