1c Blue, Re-Issue (102). Original gum, wide and balanced margins, rich re-issue color and sharp impression on fresh paperEXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN EYE-APPEALING ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE ONE-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE.
With 1995 P.F. and 2005 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, XF-Superb 95; SMQ $2,750.00). Only four grade higher (all at 98) and five others share this desirable grade.
2c Black, Re-Issue (103). Intense shade on bright paper, unobtrusive cork cancel, attractive centering, slightly nibbed perf at right not mentioned on accompanying certificateVERY FINE. A RARE USED EXAMPLE OF THE 2-CENT BLACK JACK RE-ISSUE. ONLY 28 ARE CONTAINED IN OUR CENSUS.
The 2c Re-Issue was printed from a new plate of 100 subjects, compared to the original plate of 200 in two panes. 10,000 stamps were printed (100 impressions). Only 979 of the 2c were sold; the remaining 9,021 were destroyed on July 16, 1884. The 2c plate can be easily identified by a spot on the cheek. Our census of Scott 103 used, available at https://siegelauctions.com/census/us/scott/103 , records only 28 examples.

12c Black, Re-Issue (107). Original gum, lightly hinged, perfectly centered with wide margins, long and full perforationsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. AN ABSOLUTELY STUNNING WIDE-MARGINED ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 12-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE. SCARCE IN SUCH SUPERIOR CONDITION.
The 12c Re-Issue was printed from a new plate of 100 subjects, compared to the original plate of 200 in two panes. 10,000 stamps were printed (100 impressions). Only 389 of the 12c were sold; the remaining 9,611 were destroyed on July 16, 1884.
With 1980, 1993 P.F. and 2016 P.S.E. certificates (OGph, XF-Superb 95; SMQ $12,500.00). Only four grade higher (highest is 98).
15c Black, Re-Issue (108). Unused (no gum), some scissor-separated perfs at bottom and purple handstamp on back barely shows through, otherwise Very Fine, only 397 sold, with 2014 P.S.E. certificate
24c Deep Violet, Re-Issue (109). Original gum, deep rich color and detailed impression, excellent centering with balanced marginsEXTREMELY FINE GEM. THIS IS EASILY ONE OF THE FINEST ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLES OF THE 24-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE.
The 24c Re-Issue was printed from the original plate of 200 subjects. 10,000 were printed (50 impressions). Only 346 of the 24c were sold; the remaining 9,654 were destroyed on July 16, 1884. The quantity sold for the 24c (346) is close in number to several lower values, including the 12c and 15c (389 and 397, respectively). However, the 24c is scarcer and appears less frequently at auction. It is also one of the three values most difficult to obtain in choice original-gum condition (the others are the 3c and 30c).
With 2015 P.F. certificate (XF 90 XQ), the "XQ" denotes Extraordinary Quality. With 2021 P.S.E. certificate (OGh, XF-Superb 95; SMQ $20,000.00). This is the highest grade awarded and it is shared by only two others.
24c Deep Violet, Re-Issue (109). Slightly disturbed original gum described as "previously hinged" on both accompanying certificates, intense color and impression on crisp white paper, choice centering, single slightly short perf at top leftEXTREMELY FINE ORIGINAL-GUM EXAMPLE OF THE 24-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE.
The 24c Re-Issue was printed from the original plate of 200 subjects. 10,000 stamps were printed (50 impressions). Only 346 of the 24c were sold; the remaining 9,654 were destroyed on July 16, 1884.
Ex "Laila". With clear 2002 P.F. certificate. With 2021 P.S.E. certificate mentioning the short perf (OGh, VF 80; SMQ $6,000.00).
24c Deep Violet, Re-Issue (109). Unused (no gum), nicely centered, deep rich color, thin spots, Very Fine appearance, with 1958 P.F. certificate
30c Brownish Orange, Re-Issue (110). Unused (no gum), bright color, gorgeous centering for this difficult issueEXTREMELY FINE GEM UNUSED EXAMPLE OF THE 30-CENT 1861 RE-ISSUE, WHICH IS ARGUABLY THE MOST CHALLENGING OF THE 1861-66 RE-ISSUES TO OBTAIN IN SUPERIOR GRADES. THIS REMARKABLE STAMP IS GRADED SUPERB 98 BY P.S.E. -- BY FAR THE HIGHEST GRADE AWARDED IN ANY CATEGORY.
The 30c Re-Issue was printed from the original plate of 200 subjects. 10,000 stamps were printed (50 impressions). Only 346 of the 30c were sold; the remaining 9,654 were destroyed on July 16, 1884.
Little space was left on the 30c 1861 plate for vertical rows of perforations between stamps, and the same plate was used for the 1875 Re-Issue. Therefore, well-centered copies with perforations clear at the sides are rare.
With 2010 P.S.E. certificate (Superb 98; SMQ $10,000.00). This is the highest grade awarded in any category -- for original-gum copies there is one graded 90.
