5c Green, Stone 1 (1). Full margins to just in, deep shade, tied by bold "Richmond Va. Oct. 23, 1861" circular datestamp on "Johnson, Truehart & Vaughan Wholesale Grocer's Richmond Va." yellow lithographed advertising cover to New Plymouth Va., backflap tear barely extends to front and is partly detached, Very Fine, a scarce and desirable first-month use on a grocer's corner card, signed Brian Green, who noted it as the earliest known use of Stone 1 (Scott Catalogue now lists Oct. 18 as EDU)

Ample margins to clear at top, deep rich color which matches the Stone A-B shades but not plated and not returnable for a certificate stating Stones 1 or 2, tied by bold blue "Nashville Ten. Dec. 7" double-circle datestamp on cover to Knoxville Tenn. railroad office with "Maxwell, Saulpaw & Co. Bridge Builders Nashville Tenn." fancy corner card, lovely ornate frame surrounding the advertisement, slightly reduced at right and stamp with very faint margin toning, still Very Fine and most unusual, we have seen Confederate corner cards for grocers, importers, lawyers, machine dealers, hotels, etc., but we do not recall seeing a bridge builder's corner card, ex Walcott and Hughes

Official Business." imprint (S-NC-34), fresh and Very Fine, a scarce semi-official imprint, the North Carolina Depot was located at Main and 8th Streets Richmond and issued clothing to North Carolina troops, an article about a similar cover by Patricia Kaufmann appeared in the American Stamp Dealer (and is available on her website)
