Seth Low & Co. in New York, sender asks for 30 dozen concentrated compounds of sarsaparilla syrup, manuscript "Albion" at lower left and manuscript rating at top right, Very Fine, apparently carried outside of the mails to New York, sarsaparilla was a popular patent medicine considered a remedy for skin and blood problems, including protecting against venereal disease, ex Norman Bennett

Folded letter from Baring Bros. in London dated Feb. 19, 1846 showing balance of account for Dr. Horace Gray Jr. of Boston, addressed to Dr. Gray care of Russell & Co. in Canton, China where forwarded to Boston, manuscript "via Southampton & Ceylon" and "Douglas", manuscript "2/-" rating, Hong Kong backstamp (Apr. 18), several circular datestamps struck over one another including what looks like a Boston marking from Aug. 23, second 2 shilling rate marking, light vertical file folds, Very Fine and very unusual use

HONG KONG" oval handstamp, blue "LEMUEL GODDARD LONDON" oval forwarder's backstamp (part missing), red "24" rate handstamp, small tape stain, minor wear, Very Fine and very unusual, carried by two forwarders -- one from Hong Kong to London and the other from London to the U.S., the "24" represents retaliatory rate use from England to the U.S.
