Henry C. Benner, 3c Black, Die Essay on India (11-E2a). Mounted on card, cut close with full margins on three sides and clear to touched at topVERY FINE. A RARE EXAMPLE OF THIS ESSAY FOR THE 1851 ISSUE, RECENTLY ATTRIBUTED TO THE FIRM OF HENRY C. BENNER IN WASHINGTON, D.C.
This essay was originally attributed to Rawdon, Wright, Hatch and Edson, printers of the 1847 Issue. In 2007 Roy Weber demonstrated that this was actually created by the small Washington firm of Henry C. Benner. The arguments in its favor are also available at the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society website.

Bald, Cousland & Co., 3c Green, Triple Die Essay on India (11-E16c var). 38 x 82mm, deep shade, top essay small thin spot, center essay faint diagonal crease, still Very Fine, while long attributed to Bald, Cousland & Co. and listed in Scott as such, research in the e-book U.S. Three-Cent 1851 Essays for Postage Stamps (U.S. Classics Society website) states these were produced by Baldwin, Adams & Co., with 2004 P.F. certificate, Scott lists the triple essay on India with an albino impression of the second No. 11-E14 design, Scott value as normal 11-E16c
5c 1856 Issue, Trial Color Plate Proof on Wove (12TC5). Six, including Pale Brown, Olive Bister, Olive Green, Rose Brown, Dark Rose Brown, one other which is slightly faded but shows left sheet margin, few small faults, still Very Fine and attractive group, Pale Brown with 1983 P.F. certificate

Lee, the only way to identify this as an India plate proof from the American Bank Note Co. printing is if it is part of a plate block, this India paper proof is listed in Scott as a single and a block of four but is unpriced, the plate blocks are unlisted (though the equally rare 190P4 is priced at $4,500.00 as a plate block of twelve)

(Unstated Value) Dark Green on Buff, American Post Card Co., New York, Forerunner Postal Card Essay (UX1E-Ea). With well-centered uncancelled 2c Brown (146), pre-printed address to H. Werninck & Co., London, fresh and Very Fine, a fascinating essay which attempted to combine an envelope and a letter sheet with flaps, the gummed flaps were designed to seal a message card underneath the facing paper, ex "Georgian"

Complete set of 14, each with large capital letter "SPECIMEN" overprint reading down diagonally, slightly disturbed original gum, six with natural s.e. on one side, a few trivial flawsFINE-VERY FINE AND RARE COMPLETE SET OF THE 1902 ISSUE WITH "SPECIMEN" OVERPRINT APPLIED BY BRITISH POSTAL AUTHORITIES.
Similar to the "Ultramar" overprints, these were applied to U.S. stamps provided to postal authorities as examples of what would appear on mail coming from the United States. While individual values of these Specimen overprints are sometimes found, a complete set is extremely rare.
