VERY FINE GROUP OF THE 1879 LARGE DIE COMBINATION ESSAYS FOR THE 1845 NEW YORK POSTMASTER'S PROVISIONAL ISSUE.

The top full design portion of these fascinating combination essays is a proof from the 1879 state of the die, which shows the dot in "P" and the scar on Washington's neck, which were acquired after the stamps were printed from 1845 to 1847. The bottom vignette essay does not have the scar on the neck, but does show the dot on the chin.

VERY FINE. A SCARCE COMPLETE SET OF THE ATLANTA TRIAL COLOR PROOFS OF THE 5-CENT AND 10-CENT 1847 REPRODUCTIONS.

The Atlanta trial color plate proofs on card were prepared for display at the 1881 International Cotton Exposition in Atlanta. Only one sheet of 50 in each color was made available after 1881. They were cut up into one set of blocks of eight, two sets of blocks of four, two sets of pairs and singles. Very few have been kept together as intact sets.
